Eoonomiat Speaks
Eminent Roger W. Babson re-
cently made a statement of more
than passing interest to South Tex-
as with its many facilities and op-
portunities for play and recreation.
The economist declared .that the
next 10 weeks will see America in
the thick of its greatest recreation!
boom.
Pleasure Preferred will reach an|
all time high. More people than
ever in this Republic’s hiBtory will.
lay aside dull care and take to the
vacation trail. By plane, train,;
boat and car they will scatter to
the play ways, t
The reasons are simple, despite
the calamity howlers. Since 1932
tie national income has increased
from 30J billions to 59J billions.
People not only have morp money
to spend but in the depression
more have learned how to play.
Many firms now feel able to offer
employes vacations which were de-
nied in harder times. And vaca-
tions are cheaper this year, thanks
to our public parks and good roads,
our low priced motor cars and low-
er rail and steam travel rates. Bab-
son estimates that the 1936 tourist
bill will total five billion dollars.
It is an industry which ranks with
steel and the automobile.
Housing Facts
Although the last two years have
seen considerable activity in new
home construction the shortage of
rent property In South Texas still
is acute. The situation in Corpus
Christi is well known. The cham-
ber of comerce at Slnton last week
faced the situation there by a box-
ed appeal on the front page of the
News, urging that vacant property
be listed as the daily demand far
exceeds the supply. Editor Smith
at Falfurrlas has written me that
the situation there is serious. Alice
and other towns in this section
hav > reported similar conditions.

THE OLIVER R0W-CR0P''7G"
THERE ARE TWO “70's”-
TO DO A BIG JOB QUICKER!
Here’s the new 6-cylinder Row Crop ”70”. Tractors that
burn gasoline, kerosene or distillate are not new—but
when they’re designed to meet modern conditions and
provide real fuel economy on each different fuel—they art
very new. The Row Crop "70” is the first!
The "70” H-C got its name because of its marvelous per-
formance and fuel economy using 70 octane gasoline—the
regular gas you buy every day. Its companion, the "70”
K-D, is mighty efficient on kerosene or distillate. Oliver
does not try to build a "combination” motor. You get the
tractor you need for your own particular land and fuel
conditions.
Here’s great power with light weight—a tractor that does
more work with less fuel expense. Under ordinary soil con-
ditions, either "70” will plow with two 14-incb
bases at over 4 miles per hourl You get the job
done quicker. Come in and see the new Row
Crop "70’s”—'with a complete line of mounted
listing, busting, planting and cultivating equip-
ment
