Fred Comps pleaded guilty in county
court to a charge of rudely displaying
a pistol and was fined $1 and costs.

Judge Cal T. Freeman of the Fif-
teenth district court is In McKinney
holding the McKinney term of the Fif-
ty-ninth district court for Judge M. II.
Garuett, who is reported sick.
For Stealing Turkey.
Bill Hamilton, a negro, charged with
the theft of a turkey, pleaded guilty in
the county court yesterday and was
fined $1 and costs and given a day In
jail. In a former trial Hamilton
pleaded not guilty and the jury dis-
agreed.
For Carrying Pistol.
Jim Collier was found guilty of car-
rying a pistol in the county court .yes-
terday and was fined $100 and given
thirty days in Jail.

Cases Dismissed.
A case against Lawrence Lankford,
charged with wife desertion, was dis-
missed when called for trial in the
county court, on motion hy the county
attorney.
A case against J. II. Gibson, charged
with theft, Ivns dismissed when called
for trial in the county court, on mo-
tion of the county attorney, who stated
lliut in ids'opinion there was lack of
evidence to convict and that the de-
fendant was not guilty.
Grace Presbyterian Church, at. a
meeting of Its official board last night
outlined a definite program for the
church activities for some time.
Some of the features of the program
to be put into immediate execution ari-
as follows: .
Wednesday, March 14, a congrega-
tional meeting will be held at which
time It Is expected the church will lie
able to make the best re;>ort of its lo-
cal financial condition it has made in
a dozen years.
On Sunday afternoon, March 18, a
dozen teams of churchmen, officers
and laymen, will make the Every Mem-
ber canvass for local church support
and Benevolences for the year begin
ning April I.
Tlie week beginning Sunday, March
18, will he observed as Discussion
Week, and a series of sermons will he
preached each night during that week
by some one of the leading Presby-
terian ministers of North Texas.
The month of April will lie observed

Easter Sunday will be observed with
an extraordinary program, culminating
with a splendid musical program In tin-

Gets Heavy Sentence.
lCd Hay,” a negro charged with pistol
toting, pleaded guilty before Judge

and drew a fine of $100 and was given
thirty days in jaiL
Escaped Convict Caught.
Sam Hightower, an escaped convict
from one of the state prisons, sent up
from Dallas county on a burglary
charge, is in the -Grayson county jail
awaiting the arrival of state officials
to take him into custody. Hightower
was arrested at Sapulpa hy Oklahoma
officers' on . information furnished by
ihe local sheriffs department, .and
brought here.

J. B. Mills, section foreman for
the CoDon Belt, at this place, is in
Sherman Hospital In a critical condi
tion as Hie result of a shooting which
-occurred at tlie homo of H. L. Keeucr,
No. 311 South Montgomery street,
alKiut 8 o’clock last night. Mills, is
shot through the abdomen with a pi
tol of 32-calibre arfij it Is stated there
is little hope for his recovery.
Several officers from tlie police de-
purtment answered a call turned In
to Night Desk Sergeant (1. M. Cointe-
pas shortly after tlie shooting and
found Mills lying on a bed in the
house where the shooting took place.
An ambulance was summoned from
the Sherman Transfer company and
the injured man removed to the hos
pital.
H. L. Kei-ner, who did the shooting,
walked to the county jail and gave np
before living arrested by any officer.
A jail charge of assault to murder was
entered opposite his name on the reg-
ister. He will 1h> given nn examining
trial in the justice eourt as soon as
it is determined whether the injured
man will live or not.
While Keener inis made no state-
ment in regard to the shooting affair,
it is stated that Mills'was shot when
Keener came home and found him in
company with his wife, and that the
trouble was 11 domestic difficulty. The
shooting tisik place on the outside
and Mill's was removed Inside. Two
shots were fired,' it is stated and one
took effect.
Mrs. Milts, it is stated, hail been
cooking at Uie section house during
the absence of Keener from Sherman
Tlie latter filed charges against Mills
charging him with adultery, and nlso
against his own wife. Eater, however,
lie withdrew tlie charges against Ills
wife, and took her to tlie place ori
South Montgomery street. Mills was
under bond at the time of the shoot-
ing.
Mills is about 45 years old, and
has a family.
Keener is said to be 26 years of age.
