Saptilp*. Okla,, Mar. 3.—After
nine year* of community strife,
during which thue It was unsafe for
visitors front either town to travel
in the other, itapulpa and Bristow,
the two largest cities in this section,
have buried their hatchet. Rivalry
will not down, however, but the
rivalry now in force is the friendly
kind. lteginning this week the two
cities are agreed to a friendly con-
test known as a “cleau-ug race”-—
not a clean-up‘of guns or fists, but
the modern clean-up of the streets
and lawus, the removing of eye-
sores and the general brushing up,
which is getting to be characteristic
ef the West. And on April 1st the
winner will be dined and wined by
the defeated city, when the first cor-
d:a) banquet for the rival cities will
si
lake place. The school-children,
newspapers and commercial clubs
are taking hold of the idea and aru
glad the lung enmity ts over. For
many years a revenge has been
wrought baek and forth, sometimes
for fancied wrongs; but now Abo
spirit of the modern rivalry per-
vades and both cities say they will
he game losers if the other fellows
make a cleuuer city.
