Tus National Greenback Labor
party of Indians, in convention as-
aembled at Indianapolis, nominated
a lull State ticket.
Mark M. PoMSRor, “Hrink,” edi-
tor of Pomeroy’s Democrat, leclttrid
it, Sodalia, Mo., yesterday, the 25th.
Subject: “Money, bow it is made
and spent.” His lecture was deliv-
cied tinder the auspices of the
Greenback and Workingmen's Clul.
A state conference of National
Greenback men will bo held at Au-
burn, New York, June 5th, the ob-
ject of which will be that o( counsel
among friends, to cultivate acquain-
tances, and advise with each other
in regard to tho best means to bo
adopted to unite tbe different organ
lEatlons of the State into otic great

the part the National party will

sti<tod the people ato driven to this
measure. No Democrat nor Repub-
lican would be willing to quit his
party merely for the sake of quit-
ting, but they nre driven to a no<v
party. There is no help for it. The
lenders and platform makers of both
tho old parties belong to tbe Money
Power. While the Republicans
controlled Congress tho cry was
that the laws by whi’li the bond-
holder was protected and laborer
npprossed was of the making of that
party. Hut what hits the Democrat-
ic patty done to redress these grie-
vances? With a clear majority in
the House dots not the resumption

dustries. Docs this not prove that
neither of the old parties ate to be
trusted with the interests of the
people? Until have been tried and

good men of boih parties diiven in-
to tho ranks of the new. While the
rank of tlie new party is open to
the masses of tho people who teal-
izo theit oppression and are willing
to demand justice, it is not open to
political shysters and office-seekers,
who have lost caste in and the confi-
dence ol the old parties. If the
present Congress had done its duty
there would have been no need oi
the third party. The demands of

urday night was very largely at-
tended.”
The Cincinnati Gazette grows en-
thusiastic and says: “Greenbacks
“actually have a value. The ques-
“lion now is whether gold won’t fall
“below par. Tho United States is a
“great country." Mistaken again;
Greenbacks have no value, intrinsi-

On tho 21st Mr. Ferry, of Michi-
gan, announced in the U. S. Senate
that he was instructed by a majority i
of the Committee on Finance to re-
port back without amendment and
vecommond its passage the House

of legal tender notes. According to
promise the bill should have been
called up in tho Senato before this,
but wo have soon no mention of any
effort to bring it tip in either bouse
to date.

Thf. Democratic parly is in
favor of Greenback*, say the parti-
sans, but notwithstanding this sud-
den love of Democratic leaders fora
poor people's money, the bill offer-
ed by B. F. Huiler in the House, for
tho issue of 850,000,000 of small
greenbacks and fractional currency
was dot'eated by a vote of 12t to
120. What become ol the Democrat-
ic majority in tho House in tlm
case? O, yes, tho Democrats will
put plonty of Greenbacks in their
platforms in the future. But they
will miss putting Greenback mon m
to office on the platforms. Does
an intelligent Democrat need any
further proof of the utter perfidy ol
party leaders? Certainly not.
vances could liavo been redressed.
But it did not, und every succeeding
day increases tbe demand lor a new
party. Tho persistent and oppres-
sive measures of the Money Dower
are daily driving good men Irom bulli
the old parties to the new, and the
end is not yet.
With an ill concealed sneer the
Baltimore Bulletin says: “The Na-
“ tionals want women omanci-
“ pated, interest reduced, national
“ paper money to bo ercutod to be
“ based not on golJ and silver, but
“ the public wealth and the iulegri-
“ ty ol tho nation. These people,
“ even while proposing to base a
“ currency on their integrity, are ud-
“ vocatiiig the repudiation ol all j
“ tho public obligations ami the;
“ wiping out ot all the public debt-.” j
That is just what we are advocating
—the wiping out of the national j
debt. And wInlt good fit zon can
gam,-ay such an object? is it not!
j Usl to 1 lie people that the debt
should be wiped out?—-not repudiat-

lar ol the nation. Wherefore should
any good, honest man desire that
we should he compelled to maintain
a public debt that requires millions
ol dollars annually lo pay ihc inter-
est simply to k*eji in luxurious idle-
ness a lot of bond-holders? Why
not pay oil the last cent ot our in
debtness in the holiest dollar of the
nation, and slop this interest ? But
says one they uro contracted to be
paid in gold. Well, suppose they
are, can’t we make tho greenback a
legal lender dollar at par with gold?
Certainly wo can, und when this is
done can’t the gold w til which t >re-
deem the bonds be purchased? Wo
don't want interest reduced—for the
simple reason that wo don’t want
any outstanding obligation drawing
interest. Wo do want a National
legal tender currency, based upon
tho wealth and integtily of tho na-
tion—based upon tho same wealth
and integrity that tho gold-bearing
