the water’s edge. Loss, $15,000;
insurance $10,000.
Brad Yarborough, Justice of the
Peace, residing near Covington,
Tennessee, was killed Satutday, by
Wm. Kinney, his brother-in-law, in
a quarrel growing out of an old fam-
ily feud. Kinney surrendered him-
self to the Sheriff.

Rates on west bound freights have
been advanced by both the Baltimore
and Ohio and Pennsylvania Central
railroad companies, from six to
fifty per cent, above the cut rates
prevailing during the war.
The French Assembly have
granted one hundred and twenty
thousand dollars to promote a
worthy representation of France at
the United States Centennial exhibi-
tion. It was voted without oppo-
sition.
Admirably counterfeited five
dollar bills on the First National bank
of Paxton, 111., have made their ap-
pearance along the line of the Georgia
railroad. Even expe.ts are liable to
be deceived. Probably McCartney has
visited that section.

The hoisting apparratus of the
Murchie mine, in Nevada City,
caught fire Monday, the 21st inst.
There were six miners in the shaft,
which was four hundred feet deep,
three of whom made their escape ;
two were taken out dead, after the
flames were subdued, and the third
was fatally injured.
It is understood that the Younger
and James brothers, whose exploits
at Gad’s Hill and other points in
Missouri and Kansas have created
such a sensation, are at present in
Kentucky, anticipating an attack.
The officers of banks in the section
where the desperadoes are lurking,
have placed guards over their vaults.
The dispatches report the heaviest
storm since 1844, at Kansas City on
the 22(1. There were three hours of
heavy rain, hail and high wind.
Several houses were struck by light-
ning, and a large number umoofed.
The storm covered an area of fifty
miles, extending southward. Five
lailroad bridges are reported washed
away, and a number of trains were
wrecked. A father and his child
were killed by the falling of a house
during the storm.
