Letter From the Slater of One of the llnfor
tuiiatw .Vlen Whose ItoaicH Were Keceutlv
Found iu Bed Ftlver.
Some days since the News pub-
lished the particulars of the finding
of two dead bodies in Red River, in
Fannin county, riddled with bullets.
The following additional informa-
tion is taken from a late copy of the
Savoy Spectator:
About fourteen days ago we wrote
to Miss Olive Palmertson, in Cana-
da, giv ing a description of one of the
dead men found recently in Red
River, in whoso packet was a letter
from Canada, addressed to “John
C. Palmertson, Denison, Texas,”
and signed “Your affectionate sister,
Olive.” A reply was received last
evening, in which a photograph of
the deceased was enclosed,
picture was examined by Squire
Duckworth and Dr. King, and tnese
gentlemen pronounce it undoubtedly
that of one of the dead men. The
grieved lady writes a long letter,
stating that hei brother’s character
was above reproach. The father al-
so writes a short letter, but his agi-
tation seems to have been so great
that his letter is scarsely legible.
Below we copy a part of the let-
ter from the sister:
Brantsford, May 6, 1S77.
Mr. y. IV. Thompson-.
Dear Sir :—I received your letter
last evening informing us all of the
sad, sad news of the death of my
poor brother who was so cruelly
murdered so far from home and
friends.
Ido not know at what time he went
to Texas, but I think it was in June
or July last. lie wrote that this
season lie had put in forty acres ot
cotton and a quantity of oats and
potatoes, and said that bis crop was
looking finely, and prospects were
very fine. Mv sister received a let-
ter from him, dated April 151b. lie
must lup. e met his terrible death a
few days alter writing that letter, if
indeed it is my poor, dear brother,
lie said that htfhad two hands hired
for the season, and that they were
keeping bachelor’s hall alone. He
did not mention their names. The
picture you mention haying been
found on his person, was a sister oi
poor John’s, sent him in a letter from
Canada. I enclose you a photo-
graph of mv dear brother, from
which you will be able to determine
if the body found and the picture are
one and the same. Please return
picture. My brother was not of a
quarrelsome disposition at all. lie
had not a single enemy to my
knowledge ; he had a way of making
friends and kept them, and was kind
and generous to all who knew' him.
1 do not think that the other man
could have been brother Ben, lor I
heard from him only two weeks
he was then in Illinois.
Oi.ivk Palmertson.

now a desolate ruin, a monument of j Nothing is so unpleasant, nothing

criminal incompetency. The build- i
ing was not yet under roof, and the i
massive stone cornice which piece- I
ded the roof was to-day’ being put
on. Just as the keystone was being ■
placed m the dome of the main pa- ;
vilion the brick work between the j
iron and stone gave way and the en-
tire dome and the interior walls of j
q'|ie the structure pa me crashing down !
with a terrible noise that was heard
nearly a mile away.
Il appears that the lower brick
walls were crushed by the weight ot
the upper masonry, and crumbled
like so much rotten mortar, bringing
with it the entire interior of the
building, taking all the rafters and
the corrugated iron ceiling of every
room with its concrete rilling. The
iron joists and the scaffolding came
down in a terrific mass, bringing
with it nearly all the men who were
operating upon the top of the build-
ing. At the time of the accident
there were from twenty to twenty -
five men at work. A man named
Timothy Flanigan, who was just
putting in a keystone of the final
cornice, jumped for the guy rope
of the derrick in front, but missing
his aim fell the distance of 120 feet
to the earth, and was dashed to
pieces. 'The mass of human beings,
with the exception of four or live
who jtm.oed from the windows, fell
inside the tottering walls and were
buried in the debris. ”
The negro Donnelly is the wonder j
of the town. lie jumped 119 feet
to avoid the fall, and struck all in a ;
heap in a pile of ashes. The by- |
standers, supposing him killed, were
amazed to see him get up, walk in a
dazed sort of way to a water trough,
wash his face and bind up a slight
scalp wound.

PILES!
How many suffer torture day after day,
making life a burden and robbing exist-
ence of all pleasure, owing to tlie secret
sutferings from PileA. Yet relief is ready
to the hand of almost any one who will
use systematically the remedy that has
permanently cured thousands. No dras-
tic, violent purge, but a gentle assistant
to nature.
CONSTIPATION!
SHOULD not be regarded as a
trifling ailment—in fact nature
demands the utmost regularity of
the bowels, and any deviation
from this demand paves the way
often to serious danger. It is
quite as necessary to remove im-
pure accumulations from the bow-
els as it is to eat or sleep, and no
health can he expected where a
costive habit of body prevails.
SICK. HEADACHE!
This distressing affliction occurs most
frequently. I'he disturbance of the stom-
ach, arsing from the imperfectly diges-
ted contents, causes a severe pain in tiie
head, accompanied with disagreeable,
nausea, and this constitutes v’hat is popu-
larly known as Sick Headache.
