good things and a few bad ones. I -------------------
Among other acts is one- that ! NOT FOR SALE IN.BOOK OR NEWS
is contrary to the spirit of the con-
stitution and the enlightened age in
•vhich we live, one which taxes the
faith and worship of several thousand
consciencious citizens of Texas. The
13th Legislature saw fit to incoropor-
ate in the law regulating taxation a
clause forbiding the Spiritualists lec-
turing or holding “scences, ’’unless
they first procure a license, which
costs $10 in each county. The law
reads as follows: ‘'From, every
Spiritualist, Clairvoyant, Mesmerist
or Medium so called, who plies his
or her vocation for money, ten dol-
lars for each and every county."

won a world-wide reputation, anti in the
art centres of Europe it is an admitted
fact that its woodcuts are examples of the
highest perfection ever attained. The
common prejudice in favor of “steel
plates,” is rapidly yielding to a more edu-
cated and discriminating taste which rec-
ognizes the advantages ot superior artis-
tic quality with greater facility of produc-
tion. The wood-cuts of the Aldine pos-
sess all the delicacy and elaborate finish
of the act which is clearly unconsti-
tutional, and at the same time op-
pressive.
