Troy Christmas
named to Honor
Roll at TSTC
Troy Wayne Christmas of
Palacios has been named to the
Dean’s Honor Roll for the
spring semester at Texas State
Technical College (TSTC) in
Waco.
Christmas, a student in the
Instrumentation Technology
program, is the son of Debra
G. Christmas of Palacios.
The Dean’s Honor Roll
recognizes the scholastic
achievement of students with a
grade point average of 3.5 to
3.99 for the quarter.

on Dean’s list
Julie Meadows Hamar of
Wasilla, Alaska, made Dean’s
list for the 1996 Spring
semester at Matanuska-Susitna
College in Palmer, Alaska. She
is the daughter of Elaine
Meadows of Wasilla, foimerly
of Palacios and Danny Mead-
ows of Odessa.
As you know the Summer
Reading Program at the Public
Library is underway. On July
3rd, Mary Kay Beard taught
grades K-2 with 36 children and
Maria Garza taught grades 3-6
with 28 children. July 10,
teachers were Rita Kocurek,
grades K-2 with 24 children, and
Vikijane Blomberg and
Christina Villanueva grades 3-6
with 61 children. Future dates
and teachers are: July 17, Gina
Pardo K-2 and Vikijane
Blomberg 3-6; July 20 (Sat.),
Library Olympics with Carolyn
Hutto; July 24, Georgia
Gustafson K-2 and Yen Tran 3-
6; July 31, Jeanette Batchelde
K-2 and Dina Vasquez 3-6.
A very special thanks go out
to all the above for volunteering
their time to work with our
children of Palacios.
There were 13 participants in
the Cheerleading camp on Sat-
urday, July 13. Thanks go to
Angela Garza, Kathy Garza, and
Karen Colling and Nga Nguyen
for working with these future
cheerleaders. All these summer
activities could not take place
without refreshments, so a “very
special” thanks goes to all the
