the costs of clothes for the
competition to come up with.
Since she is representing
Palacios,, it would be a good
gesture if clubs and businesses
could chip in and help offset the
costs incurred. We also wish
her the best of luck in the
pageant.
NOT TO BE TOLERATED •
The road to Palacios pride
and progress is often frustrating
and costly thanks to a few
inconsiderate individuals who
get their kicks by destroying
and defacing public property.
For every step forward Pala-
cios takes by trying to improve
and add facilities for the public,
it’s dragged back a half-step by
these imbeciles and their wan-
ton vandalism. You name al-
most anything that the city or
any community organization
has done in the way of physical
facilities or services for the
public, and you'll find that it
has been vandalized at one time
or another.
Everything from street signs
to water towers have been
defaced or damaged by jerks -
who feel they are projecting a
macho image by thumbing their
noses at the rest of the _
community. They've ripped off
street signs, plowed their cars
and bikes through park areas
and destroyed benches and
railings on the pavilion.
The latest incident involved
the restroom facilities at South
Bay Park over the weekend.
Eyen though designed as "van-
da] proof' as possible, the new
facilities were no match for the
thugs who ripped out the metal
light cages, broke the bulbs and
tissue holder and left their
familiar graffiti on the walls.
There’s no way the park
facilities can be patrolled en-
ough by any police department
to prevent vandalism. Nor can
the street signs or water towers.
It requires the assistance of the
general public in staying alert
and reporting any act of vanda-
lism or suspected vandalism
taking place. After all, it's
usually the taxpayer’s money
thfet is being jeopardized.
Vandalism may be hard to
prevent, hut it certainly doesn’t
have to be tolerated.

A Palacios Welcome goes to
Sonic Drive-In which opened for
business last week.' Sonic plans
to have its formal grand open-
ing in the near future.
As many already know, the
multi-purpose First Baptist Ch-
urch Family Life Center is also
open. It too has slated its formal
opening and dedication for next
month. In the meantime, we
hear the facility has a machine
that dispenses some of the best
yogurt around-both large and
small Servings.

PLANNING THE FUTURE
A tip of the hat to the Palacios
ISD for its recent Project 2000
workshop. Project 2000 is de-
signed to look at the district’s
direction for the next five years
and solicit recommendations for
changes or improvements in a
variety of areas. A two-day
workshop was conducted for
representatives of the faculty
and a second for a number of
community leaders.
The two group’s separate
recommendations will be com-
piled and the district will issue a
combined report on their find-
ings.
