Morning To Honor
Mr. And Mrs. Davis
A miscellaneous shower honor-
ing Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Davis is
being sponsored by their many
friends Saturday morning between
9 and 12 o’clock at the VFW Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Davis lost all their
personal possessions in the fire
that destroyed the Capitol Theatre
and their home.
An invitation is extended to
everyone who would like to attend.
Bridal Shower
Honors Mrs. Penland
Mrs. James Penland was the
guest of honor at a miscellaneous
shower given by the women of the
Presbyterian Church at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Trull on
April 3.
Mrs. Carlton Crawford and Miss
Elizabeth Sisson turned the living
room into a “Hat Shoppe” as the
women fashioned Easter bonnets of
an assortment of materials gath-
ered from the kitchen, storage
room and sewing basket. The cre-
ations were modeled amid much
laughter.
An Easter basket of lovely gifts
was presented the bride with the
best wishes of all present.
Cake and punch were served to
the guests.
Wednesday Club
To Picnic April 16
At Brooking Ranch
Wednesday Club members will
meet at the ranch home of Mrs.
Mabel Brooking next Wednesday,
April 16, for a picnic. Each person
is to take a picnic lunch and those
who can take cars have* been
asked to call Mrs. J. L. Koerber.
“Pan-American Day” was the
subject of the meeting of the club
last week at the home of Mrs. B.
W. Trull, whose home was inter-
estingly and colorfully decorated
with many articles she has col-
lected on trips to South America.
Mrs. Adelaide Clark opened the
program with a wonderful paper
on “Spanish Influence on Texas
Culture.” She told how much U. S,
culture has been enriched by Span-
ish music, architecture, and in
other fields. Many of the words
used daily here were taken from
the Spanish language, she pointed
out.
One of the most interesting pro-
grams of the year was presented
when Mrs. Trull showed color
slides of beautiful scenes in South
and Central America and the Car-
ribean. She and her son, R. B.
Trull, took the pictures on a recent
trip to visit Mrs. Trull’s daughter
and son-in-law, who are mission-
aries in Venezuela.

MODEL PLANE BECOMES A
MODERN FRANKENSTEIN
HOUSTON — When Clayton
Smith, a model plane enthusiast,
built his P-51 Mustang fighter
model, it was his pride and joy.
He had it rigged up with a long
control wire so he could maneuver
it perfectly in the air. Last week
while flying it on a vacant lot,
the wire contacted a high voltage
line, and Mr. Smith was electro-
cuted.
