Teachers
The Texas State Teachers As-
sociation (TSTA) announced this
week it will ask the state legisla-
ture for a $5,000 across-the-
board pay raise for all Texas
teachers and will work for a 20-
percent hike for other education
employees.
TSTA president Charles
Beard said it is a myth that sig-
nificant progress has been made
in teacher salaries as a result of
education reform in Texas.
"The fact is that in relative
terms, teachers' salaries have
been slipping faster than the price
of Texas 'crude"’, Beard said.

next biennium," said Beard.
