SCHOOL NOTES.
,. (Frank Schoppe. Co. Supt.).
Examinations for teachers
certificates will be held at the
courthouse Friday and Satur
day, February 1 and 2.
The last Legislature appro-
priated $50,000 for the pur
pose of making an educational
survey, of the public educatio
nal system of the state. On
learning that only a few of
the counties of the state will
be surveyed, I asked State
Supt. Marrs to use his influ-
ence in including our county
in the survey. This is the letter
this office received from Dr.
Geo. A. Works, directors o?
the survey:
*T am very glad to know
that you are Willing to coope -
rate with the survey and I am
confident that it will be pos-
sible forus tomake arrange-
•ments to include it in certain
phases of the survey. Jus*
what one I would not want to
promise definitely at thi3
time.”
This work, which will call
for considerable energy on our
part, will prove beneficial to
the schools of the county by*
showing us just where our
county educational system is
weak and will not cost our
county anything.
* * *
The county board of trustee?
will hold its regular meeting
the first Monday in February.
All matters pertaining to the
schools and in its sphere of in-
fluence will be considered.

Lift Off-No Pain!
The Herald is authorized to
announce Frank Schoppe as
candidate for reelection to the
office of County Superinten-
dent of Public Instruction of
Lavaca County subject to the
Democratic Primary.
Supt. Schoppe is well known
to the people of our County
and especially by the school
trustees and teachers. He was
born and reared on a Texas
farm which has made him fa-
miliar with the problems and
needs of the rural schools. As
a citizen he has always stood
for those things that are pro-
gressive and upbuilding for
the benefit of the public, he
has at all time proven loyal
and patriotic to his country’s
cause, he is a veteran of the
Spanish.-American war in
tyhich he served until muster-
ed out of service. During the
world war he rendered valua
ble service in the duties as-
signed him, being ready at all
times with a response to any
call that was made.
Supt. Schoppe is 45 years of
age, just in the prime of life,
his body and mind in that vi-
gorous state which with his
enegery makes him enthusia-
stic in his work. He is a gra-
duate of the Sam Houston
State Normal College and has
a Permanent Grade Teacher’s
Certificate. He was a success-
ful teacher of our County,
having taught in both the ru-
ral and city schools for 16
years, ten years of this time as
principal of the Moravia Ru-
ral High School.
Not in the history of the
superintendent’s office of La-
vaca County has the rural
schools been benefited as dur-
ing the tenure of office of
Supt. Schoppe, he has been
instrumental in securing the
construction of 14 modern
school buildings, 16 buildings
have been remodeled, 4 new
teachers cottages erected and
20 teachers added to the rural
teaching force during the 5
years he has held office.
Supt. Schoppe has at all
times worked in harmony and
co-operation with the trustees
and teachers throughout the
county which has helped to
build our rural schools to the
high standard of to-day. His
great interest is centered m
the rural school children, be-
ing once a barefoot country
boy he knows and appreciates
their needs.
Supt. Schoppe asks for the
support of the voters of La-
vaca County for the re-ele^
tion to the office of Co. Sunt,
with the assurance if elected
he will continue to serve his
constituents to the best of trs
ability backed up by the prac-
tical experience gleaned dur-
ing the past five years of his
incumbency in office.
