The chicken pie supper lsst Satur-
day evening for the benefit of tlie
band was most liberally patronized,
the net proceeds amounting to about
fifty dollars, The band boys greatly
appreciate the liberality of the good
ladies of the city who so kindly do-

Capt. Clement of the Alamo took a
party of merry makers to the Gulf
Tuesday. There was just enough
wind and waves to make the trip real
interesting. The party consisted of

Mr. Henry Fisher who has spent
the past four winters in Palacios, left
for Marlin Springs, Tuesday morning
where he will tarry for a week or so
before going to his home in Colorado.
Mrs. J. R. Wagner went to Houston
Wednesday for a two week’s stay.
While there she expects to attend the
O. E. S. school of instruction which
is to be held in Houston March 30th
and Slat.
Mr. and Mrs.Myrou West of Sabetha,
Kansas, who have been here for the
past three months, left for their home
yesterday morning. Palacios is quite
the fashion with Sabethaites and we
expect to see these good people here
again.
O. L. Kirkpatrick, A. J. Tatum and
J. E. Grant went to Freeport. Tues-
day to investigate the sulphur mine.
They report great activity at the new
port. Mr. Tatum brought home a
specimen of the sulphur from the
miues.

Miss Norlne Gardner had planned a
sailing party for last night honoring
Miss Carrie Phillips. But as the
breeze was considered too stiff the

picnic lunch eaten on tbe lawn at P.
F. Campbell’s.
The Young Ladles Auxiliary of the
Fresbylorlait church gave a -theater
party at the LaBelie Tuesday night in
honor of Misses Strong and Phillips,
wl o will soon leave for their northern
homes. After the show the party
was entertained with readings and
musio both Instrn mental and vocal,
after which light refreshments were
served. About , twenty-five were
present.

The time was pleasantly spent in
plaring the popular games in the
house and on the beautiful moonlit

Mrs. Bert Johnson was hostess Fri-
day afternoon March 17th at an in-
formal luncheon given in honor of
Mrs. Frank Hebert of San Jnan,
Texas. The color scheme was green
and red, the place cards and favors,
suggestihg St. Patrick’s Day. Those
present were Mesdames Frank
Hebert, Jobn Bentler, Milo Miller, S.
H. Moore and W. L. Shepherd.
On Friday evening, March 31st,
there will be a social at tbe home of
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cannon, juet north
of the Cash Creek bridge, to which
everyone is moat cordially invited.
There will be a fishpond, fortune tell-
ing, lemonade stand and various other
amusements and refreshments. Our
object is to help raise money which is
still needed on our Community House.
Mr. Chris. Johnson is demonstrat-
ing that asparagus of the finest qual-
ity ean be prodnoed here even in the
dryeat weather, and ie making ship-
ments of this fme vegetable to outside
markets frequently. We thank
friend Johnson for a bunch of the
tips which were fine indeed. Mr.
Johnson Is putting them up in a
style that makes them roost at-
tractive when displayed, for sale.
Mr. Wm. Basse, who last year re-
moved from Palaolos to Nebraska, in
a recent note to tbe Beacon says “We
enjoy the Beacon’s weekly visits very
much. Have hadM rather mild win-
ter, only several times the thermome-
ter registered below aero, and we
somewhat wished to be iu sunny Tex-
as ” Mr. Basse has lately moved
Presbyterian Church Notes.
There will be regular services in
the Presbyterian church next Sab-
buth as usual. At 11 a. m. the sub
jeot lor consideration willbe, “Light,”
and at 7:45 p. m., “Obligation to love
God.” The Sabbath School meets at
9:45 a. m. and the Westminster
League at 7 p. in. each Sabbath. You
are cordially invited to come and
worship with us in any or all of these
services on the Lord’s day.
