on anniversary
The chifdren of Mr. and
Mrs. Gus franzen hosted an
Open House honoring their
parents on the occasion of
their 25th Wedding Anniver-
sary on Sunday, November
20,, in theii home in College-
port. 1
Upon arrival, the four nieces
of the house party, Mrs.
Ernest Lenz, Mrs. Keith Hop-
kins, Mrs. Clyde Dowdle and
Mrs. Gerald Wells, Jr. were
presented corsages. Other
members of the Silver Anni-
versary party were Mrs. B.B.
Bryan, Mrs. Gerald Wells and
Mrs. Dean Merck.
Mrs. Ernest Lenz, Jr. regis-
tered the guests.
The bride’s'table was laid
with a white linen cloth and
centered with a large floral
arrangement of white mums,
carnations and daisies inter-
spersed with silver rice and
flanked by whjte candles. A
beautifully decorated three
tiered white and silver anni-
versary cake, made by Mrs.
Duane Corporon, graced one
end of the table. A silver
coffee service and a crystal

We bid farewell to Mr. and
Mrs. Clifford Morish who have
moved to Killeen and to the
Gerald Lightners who have
moved to Copperas Cove.
Many watching the $25,000
Pyramid Thanksgiving night
were surprised when one of
the contestants was Robert
Jackson, formerly of Palacios.
Robert won $700 on the show.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Koer-
ber, Jr. spent Thanksgiving in
Houston with their daugther,
Mrs. Kay Erekson and chilcj-
ren. They weije joined there by
their other daughter, Miss
Jeanne Koerber of San An-
tonio.
O.W. Fegett of Midland
visited friends here over the
weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh C.
Dismukes and Debbie spent
the Thanksgiving holidays
here with his mother, Mrs.
Hugh Dismukes.
Mr. and Mrs. Woody Wil-
son, Mr. and Mrs. Roger
Wilson and famil,y spent
Thanksgiving day in Wharton
with their daughter and sister
and her family, Dr. and Mrs.
Jim Hoffman and children.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fitz-
morris of Spring spent the
holiday weekend here with
their parents, Rev. and Mrs.
J.R. Gwin and Mrs. Glenda
Fitzmorris. Other guests of
Mrs. Fitzmorris were her
daugther, Dorris and children
of Houston.
Mrs. Eleanor Louderback
went to Wharton Wednesday
where she was joined by her
daughter, Mrs. Mary Bateman
of Hammond, La., her
daughter Susan Demilon and
daughter Shelley, Mr. and
Mrs. Evi Brink and two
children, all of Baton Rouge,
La.
All enjoyed Thanksgiving
dinner with Mrs. Louderback’s
other daughhter and family,
the Irving Moores. Thursday
afternoon all came to Palacios
where they stayed until
returning home Sunday morn-
ing.

The smorgasbord table was
laid with a white linen cloth, a
gift from the brothers and
sisters. The table held the
groom’s cake, baked by Mrs.
Dean Merck and decorated
with the family brand, also an
assortment of hors’d’oeuvres
(cold cuts, cheese balls, chips
and dips, pickles, olives, cock-
tail rye bread and crackers).
One of the silver plates used
on the table was a 25th
wedding anniversary gift to
Mr. and Mrs.iGus Franzen,
Sr., parents of Gus Franzen.
Mrs. Keith Hopkins served
the punch and coffee, Mrs.
Clyde Dowdle and Mrs. Duane
Corporon served the anniver-
sary cake and Mrs. Gerald
Wells, Jr. presided at the
Smorgasbord table.
The buffet {Actured a farm
scene with an arrangement of
rice and maize, cattle and
tractor.
The gift table was covered
with a white linen cloth woven
by Mr. Franzen’s grandmo-
ther in Sweden.
Brothers and sisters attend-
ing were: Ellen Bryan and
Clifford Franzen of Lone Oak,
Dorothy and'Dean Merck,
Mamie and Jerry Wells, Alex
Franzen of Collegeport, Hazel
(Wilson) and C.W. Boeker of
Channelview, also Edla John-
son of Palmer Lake, Colorado,
Frances and Ear Ferguson of
Pflugerville, cousins of Ida
Mae also Larry Franzen, a
1 cousin from Shenadoah, Iowa.
Guests were present from
Bay City, Palaciol Port Lava-
, ca, Deutschburg, Inez, Victor-
ia, El Maton, Channelview,
Houston, Colorado, Pfluger-
ville, Iowa, Oklahoma City,
Lone Oak, Midfield, Waco,
Blessing, Seabrook, Citrus
Grove and Collegeport.
Mr. and Mrs. Franzen have
received many gifts, cards,
and telephone calls from
friends unable to attend for
which they arp very apprecia-
tive.

party
planned
The Tres Palacios Garden
Study Club met on Tuesday,
November 22, at the home of
Mrs. Lydia Hunter with Mrs.
Dena Harris as co-hostess.
There were eleven members
including our new member,
Mrs. Hortense Wyatt.
Our Christmas party was
discussed. It will be held on
Monday, December 19th, at
the home of Mrs. Mildred
Segelquist at 2:30 p.m. A
Tasting Party was planned.
Each member will bring one of
their favorite dishes.
Mrs. Dena Harris gave a
very interesting report on
"The Thanksgivings of Yester-
Year", recalling the bountiful
Thanksgiving feast in spite of
the hardships of the time.
After the meeting a deli-
cious luncheon was served by
the hostesses, after which the
beautiful green house that
Mrs. Hunter maintains was
visited.
Athena hears
Sam Hurta
The Athena Club met in
regular session November 21
in the Athens Room of the
Palacios Library with the pres-
dent presiding.
Miriam Flaks led in prayer,
after which the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag was
given.
Margaret Lawson was in
charge of the program on
Rehibilitation and introduced
her guest speaker, Sam Hurta,
sheriff of Matagorda County.
He spoke on the existence, and
the effects on society of drugs,
alcoholism and pronography.
He informed the group on the
things being done and ex-
pressed the need for greater
control and better laws.
After a short business ses-
sion, the meeting closed with
the reading of the Club
Collect.
