Concerning the Senior Center,
— Councilman Neil Hartsfield
The City of Palacios is better commented, "Let all of them (the
off than thought. It was recently library, the cemetery, the Senior
discovered that the City owns a Center, etc.) pay their water bill;
piece of land near the Bayfront
Trailer Parte adjacent to East Bay
Park. It was rather like finding a
$5 bill in your long-stored suit
pocket. So they’re going to ask
the Seawall Commission to add
handrails to the windfall and
consider it an extension of East
Bay Park.
The Palacios City Council
give them a donation instead."
That touched off a discussion of
who was getting free water, al-
though no one thought the list
would be long, Lisa Petrisky
will prepare a list of those getting
free water service. It was also
brought up that the City seems to
be pumping considerably more
water than is being used and
was also told, in its regular discussion concerning the water
meeting on February 20, that all service will, no doubt, continue,

Also relating to trash, Bob
Hayes of Bayside Trailer Park,
asked the City to supply a
dumpster near Turning Basin #3.
As TB#3 is outside the City lim-
its, the City would ordinarily ask
for a surcharge for dumpster
service. However, Hayes
pointed out that garbage trucks
went right by the site anyway on
their way to Bayside (which is in
the City limits) and that he really
didn't feel like paying a premium
to collect trash that wasn't on his
property. Mayor Leonard Lam ai
expressed his agreement by say-
ing, "If Bob Hayes is willing to
pick up trash down there, jt
looks like a good deal for the
City. It's a real mod-offer cr.
other a 1986; both were used as
police cars. In spi(>- of the high
mileage on both, it w.t- assumed
that they might bring in the
neighborhood of $1500 each.
With the $10 bid on the other
surplus car still ringing in her
mind, Councilwoman Joanna
Hendricks suggested, "If we put
them up for bid, let's specify a
minimum bid." There was other
discussion of placing them in a
regular car auction in Houston or
somewhere else, but no definite
action was taken.
Two lights will be added to
the seawall area in the area of the
Baptist encampment. An illumi-
nation standard of 1/2 foot can-
dle was set for all areas of the
seawall, but the lay of the land
around the Encampment dictates
a couple more lights to guarantee
that level uf illumination. The ;

David Johnson petitioned the
Council for relief on his water

Police Chief Don Gullett
commented, "If a person is not
going to do the work and keep
their license, there's no sense in
retaining him." A new uniform
had been ordered for the officer,
a large man who required a
custom-tailored uniform; Gullett
is attempting to return the
uniform and get the City's
money back from the supplier.
Hector Garcia was hired, on a
for TB#3.
The bid was opened for the
1978 Ford Crown Victoria that
the City had put on the surplus
list. The bid, $10, was the only
one received and the Council re-
jected it, thinking they could get
more if they simply junked the
car. Two Fords, soon to be re-
placed by 1989 police cars, will
likely be placed on the surplus
list also. City employees cur-
rently have all the vehicles they
need. One is a 1985 model, the
agreed to pay the monthly bill on
the extra two lights ($11.37 per
light per month) when they as-
sume responsibility for the rest
of them in 1990. The contractor
had informed Mayor Lamar that
all lights were scheduled to be in
operation by the time the Elissa
arrives, March 29.
