this week announcing the approach-
ing marriage of their daughter,
Jimmie Pauline, to Captain George
S. Jones of New York, which will
take place at the Methodist church
on Dec 18th.
Mias fletherton is a natlre of
Ooieman and was a student of the
OOieman schools She was valedic-
torian of the graduating class of
West Ward, and the salutatonan of
the 1942 graduation class in High
School. Other honors won by Miss

University for special work with all
expenses paid by the local Ameri-
can Legion Auxiliary; winning of
the scholarship award given by the
D. A. R. for making the highest
grade in American history; and she
was chosen by students, faculty and
Kiwanls members as the outstanding
senior student and was presented a
plaque to be placed In the “hell of
fame" of the Coleman High School.
She was active In the school pep
squad, and was business manager
for the school paper. The Round-
Up, for two years. She has always
taken an active part In the various
phases of church work and attend-
ed a number of the Young People's
camps and training schools.

Captain Jones Is the son of Mr.
ahd Mrs. David W. Jones of Sunrise
Terrace, Birmingham, New York. He
is a native New Yorker and is a
graduate of Central High School
and before joining the army ail1
forces he was employed as a process
and bench inspector for the Inter-
national Business Machine Corpora-
tion. He enlisted in the army
March M, 1942, and was commis-
sioned January 14. 1943 at the Lub-
bock Air Base. He received his pri-
mary training at the Coleman Ply-
ing School. Captain Jones went
overseas in July 1943 as pilot of a
B-28 Marauder and completed sixty-
seven missions before returning to
the United States. The crew with
which he worked is specially proud
of a “no Purple Heart" record. But
he is the proud but modest posses-
sor of the Distinguished Flying
Crow, the Air Medal with two sil-
ver and two bronze oak leaf clus-

evening. The group packed a Christ-
mas box for the Navajo Methodist
Mission School, at Farmington. N.

sented, withv Mrs. Floyd Johnson
giving the devotional and Mrs. Joe
K. Taylor reviewing the book, “Bur-
ma Surgeon," by Major Seagraves.

Is Announced
Simplicity characterized the occa-
sion Monday afternoon, December 4,
when Mrs. Geo. E. Sparkman hon-
ered her daughter, Gussie, with a
tea, announcing her engagement to
Arthur V. Jennings, son of Dr. and
Mrs W. L. Jennings. Both fami-
lies are longtime residents of Cole-
man.
In the receiving line were the hos-
tess and Mrs. Jennings, the bride-
elect, and two of her sisters, Mrs.
Clyde Larance of Abilene and Geor-
gia Sparkman, also Mrs. Marion
Jennings Whitaker.
Mrs F. L. Maedgen. aunt of the
bride-elect presided at the register.
The engagement was annonuced
after guests were directed to the

Wed Army Officer
County Agent and Mrs. C. V. Rob-
inson of Llano, formerly of Cole-
man, have annonuced the engage-
ment of tiller daughter, Palma, to
Lt. Com. A. H. Dailey of Newport,
R. I. The wedding date is pending
the bride elect's release from Bay-
lor University, where she is a mem-
ber of the teaching staff.
The couple plan to go to New York
for a wedding trip and will live in
Washington, where Lt-.Com. Dailey
is stationed at the Naval Air Sta-
tion, Anacostla.
Miss Robertson is well known in
Coleman, having graduated from
Coleman High School and was an
active member of the band. She re-
ceived the masters degree from

for six years and Is now assistant
professor of physical education at
Baylor University.

The bride-elect’s chosen color of
gold was emphasized In the center
piece for the tables, .which was an
arrangement of bronze and gold
chrysanthemums on a reflector. An
arrangement of fruit, flanked by
yellow tapers adorned the buffet.
The announcement was revealed
on place cards which were Inscribed
“Janey and Johnny, Dec. 10th."
The bride's book, handwork of the
bride-elect's sister, Peggy, was done
in gold.
The menu consisted of grape
fruit cup. sausage and bacon, hot
biscuits, butter and Jelly. Guests
were Rosella Layton. Mary Hender-
son. Marie Jameson. Olga Mae
Cobb. Ruth Cox, Norma Ellis, Mar-

were held, with Dayton McDonald
as the district attorney.
Evelyn Bruce, Dorothea Casey and
Novelle McClelland were on the re-
freshment committee. Betty Ann
McCaughen and Vernetta Stephen-
son arranged the decorattons and
Mrs. J. F D. Williams was the spon-
sor. Sandwiches, potato chips.,
cookies and punch were served to
Santa Anna, Nov. 29.—The project
by the Self Culture Club to sell
enough war bonds to get a fighter
plane named "Santa Anna. Texas,”
was completed here today, announc-
ed Mrs. Elgean Shield, president..
It was hoped to reach a goal of
$88,000 to pay for the smallest of
Navy planes, a Gruman Hellcat, but
a preliminary tally Indicates that
much more than that may be cred-
ited, as some rural buyers of bonds
had not sent their serial numbers.

A. D. Donham. Jr.. C; L. Eads, John
R Banister, and R. C. Gay.
HE SHAKESPEARE CLUB
UDIES MEXICO.
’he Shakespeare Club met Tues-
daftafternoon at the Library. Roll
call was answered with Mexican In-
dustry. During a short business
session, plans were discussed for a
Christmas program and party to be
held at the Library Tuesday, Dec.
12th.
Mrs. Joe K. Taylor was the pro-
gram leader. Mrs. Hunter Wood-
ruff gave a paper on the “Causes
of Revolt Against Spain" with Mrs.
Carter M. Dibrell giving a paper on
“War Between Texas and Mexico."
CHORAL CLUB PRESENTS
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM AT
P.-T. A. MEETING.
The Choral Club presented a
Christmas program Monday after-
noon. when the South Ward P -T.
A. -met in the school auditorium.
Ann Glasson directed the Christmas
carols, with Marianne Clark play-
ing the piano accompaniment. Bet-
ty Pruitt read the Christmas story,
while the club sang softly. Ann
Miller sang the solo part In "Our
Christmas Prayers."
Mrs. O. B. Kitchen presided over
the business session, when reports
were heard and the new treasurer,
Mrs. B. L. Bryan, was introduced.
Miss Ruth Riley's room won the
membership prize of $5 and Miss
Bell Patton's room won the dollar
prize for the most mothers present.
Mmes. E. W. Brldwell. Bryan, R.
E. Henderson, and Clyde Henderson
were named on a commitee to pur-
chase candy for the Christmas par-
ty.
Mrs. Earl Clary, speaker of the
day, used as her subject, "Victory
in Battle Is Not Enough.” There
were 30 members present.

Business Women's Circle of .the
Presbyterian Church.
The Shakespeare Club is meeting
at. the library for the annual
Christmas party.

tests were enjoyed, the honoree was
presented with her gifts, which she
opened and passed to the other
guests for-inspection.
Twenty-five guests registered in
the white leather bound bride's book.
Chicken sandwiches, coffee and in-
dividual cakes, on which U, S. M.
was done in red, white and blue ic-
ing, featuring the groom's service
insignia. He is in the Marine
Corps and has seen more than two
years of foreign service.
