On September 22 at the
Homecoming game at Br-
idgeport school a plaque was
presented to Student Coun-
cil president and Bridgeport
Mascot in recognition of a
drug free campus.
Members of VFW Chico
Post 10700 presented the
plaque and was assisted by
Virgal and Ruby Cox, VFW
Post 8914, Jacksboro, who
presented an American flag
from their post.
Chico Post was chartered
in 1984 and since has become
a very active part of District
#21. Virgal and Ruby Cox
were very involved in help-
ing to organize this post and
auxiliary.
Larry Cox serves as post
commander, a young veteran
and Sherri Stubbs, a young
25 year old serves as presi-
dent. Her husband, Jeff
Stubbs, a 26 years old
Bieuret Veteran serves as
post quartermaster.
What makes this presen-
tation so very special is the
fact that the entire student
body request to be tested for
drugs, 106 total students,
and 106 tested 100% drug
free. This was brought to the
attention of the Chico post
when it was announced on
Paul Harvey's news cast.
The young members of
Chico, Jeff and Sheri Stubbs,
decided to honor this group
of high school students with
a plaque for their drug-free
campus. The presentation
was made during half-time
ceremonies at mid field with
a crowd of 3,500 people pres-
ent. The plaque reads as fol-
lows:
In special recognition of
the Student Body of Bridge-
port High School for their
unanimous support of a
Drug Free America. You
have established an uncom-
promising standard for oth-
ers to follow.

How to Take Care of
Minor Burns
, According to the Handbook of
Nonprescription Drugs, there are
over five million fire-related
accidents reported in the United
States each year. Most bum in-
juries occur in the home or as the
result of industrial accidents. In
addition to pain and redness,
bums can cause infection, loss of
body fluids, and destruction of
body tissues. Most burns are
minor and, with appropriate care,
can be treated at home or at the
work site.
Treat minor burns initially
with cold water. Apply cold
water towels or immerse the bum
in ice water or cold running
water. The cold water helps re-
duce pain, swelling, and further
injury to body tissues. Keep the
bum area clean. Do not apply
butter or greasy-type products to
bums. These materials provide a
place for streptococcus and other
infection-causing bacteria to
grow.
A thin layer of a mild
emollient cream, such as one
containing aloe, is oftrii helpful
in reducing pain and inflam-
mation. Local anesthetic sprays
(containing benzocaine, lidocaine,
or dibucaine) may help reduce
burn pain as well. Anesthetic
sprays should be used only when
the pain is particularly bother-
some, such as at bedtime.
