Koinonians
Choose Study
Of Parables
The Koinonia Group of First
United Methodist Church met
January 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the
church library for their first
meeting of 1981.
The new chairman, Mrs. D.
S. Leverett, presided, and Mrs.
John Dix gave the opening
prayer.
Mrs. Walter King read the
minutes of the previous meet-
ing and gave the treasurer's
report. Members present paid
dues.
After discussion about
studies for this year the group
decided to continue the study
on “Parables of Jesus -
Glimpses of the New Age”, by
Neal F. Fisher.
In the absence of a prepared
study from the textbook, Mrs.
Walter King, vice chairman,
spoke to the group on “Praying
for Others”. She said, “To
continue in prayer for another
person is a costly, but reward-
ing thing. There are several
reasons why it is not an easy
thing to pray for others, and
that we need to know what
they are and what to do about
them."
“First, we are all so wrapped
up in our own concerns that we
may not take enough time to
understand the needs of
others", stated Mrs. King.
“A second cause for failure to
keep on praying for another
person is that we are often-
times influenced by the seem-
ing impossibility of our neigh-
bors' need,” she added.
“The third reason in the case
of praying for one who has
wronged us in a personal way,
is that our feelings of having
been wronged may be greater
than our desire for God to bless
the other person”, she con-
tinued.
Mrs. King concluded, “A
fourth reason we may find it
hard to continue praying for
others, is that we lack the
Master's compassion. We do
not look at others with love and
understanding. If we did, our
concern would be greater and
we would not find it so difficult
to keep praying for them.”
The Koinonia Group will
meet in the library of the
church during the cold weather.
The next meeting will be Jan.
28 at 2:30 p.m.
The meeting adjourned and
the group was dismissed with
the Watchword.
Present were the following
members: Mrs. C. A. Crump,
Mrs. John Dix, Mrs. Walter
Fry, Mrs. Fred Goss, Mrs. E.
R.Griffis, Mrs. D. S. Leverett,
Mrs. S. E. Richardson, and Mrs.
Walter King.

Flu Viruses
Flu viruses weren’t discovered
until the 1930’s. Antibiotics,
effective against bacteria, can-
not stop the viruses that cause
flu. Instead, vaccines are needed.
Viruses modify their chemical
makeups, though, requiring new
and different vaccines periodi-
cally. v
