COLEMAN DEMOCRAT-VOICE
«,
Coleman, Texas, December 4, 1984
• Letters To Editor
Dear Editor:
How to pay the unpayable Nation-
al Debt.
If there was a market for decep-
tion, hypocracy, ego and conceit and
we could find a buyer for what we
have here in the United States, we
could pay off the National Debt and
have money left. Unfortunately for
us we are not likely to find a dummy
with that kind of money.
So the logical thing to do is start
cutting down on needless expendi-
tures. First and best place to start,
abolish the Dept. of'Education and
the Department of Energy. Quit
handing out tax- money to organiza-
tions and nations whose members
hate the United States.
Stop the long, drawn out un-
necessary court trials. Claiming the
right to a fair trial as justification
for these mockeries is an insult to
the taxpaying citizens. Some crimi-
nal lawyers are experts at using our
justice system to gain lenient sen-
tences for the vicious clients they
defend in court.
There are millions of retired
Federal and State officials and
employees drawing a lot more
retirement pay than they deserve or
need to live on comfortably. If these
retirement payments are going to
contribute to our bankruptcy, it
seems the recipients would be
willing to accept a little less.
There are thousands of bureau-
crats drawing large salaries for
engaging in activities which . are
completely worthless and some are
detrimental to the welfare of the
United States.
The billions of dollars which the
Federal Government is sending
abroad to feed the hungry in the
so-called “Third World” countries
represents a part of the rope we
were predicted to furnish to hang
ourselves. Not a very tranquilizing
thought, is it?
But who cares? We have enough
football, baseball, basketball, tennis,
golf', and that other game they pl»y
on ice with a stick, to keep us
entertained until the bus goes over
the edge.
Very sincerely,
Ray Lee,
Route 2,
Coleman, Texas 76834
