JACKSBORO, JACK COUNTY, TEXAS, THURSDAY, JULY 18, 1907
No. 26
CUNDIFF
July 9—We will try to send a
few lines to the News this week.
Everybody interested with their
hoes. Cotton very late* but we
think with plenty of rain and work
there will be some cotton in this
county.
Last Saturday the Farmers Un-
ion had a rally at the Live Oak
school house. Just such a nice'
time as we all had. Some of the
men fished three days before and
they passed fried fish around in
dish pans. I think there was as
much dinner carried away as was
eaten. They had speeches and
music. We heard Uncle Nat for
the first time.
Last Sunday Miss Lora Gleason
visited the home of her childhood.
She brought her husband with her,
his name is Mullens. They are go-
ing to make their home in Okla-
homa.
Miss Maggie Singleton and Mr.
Charlie Hall were marrted about a
week ago. ,
Uncle Billie .Johnson is still on
the sick list also Mrs. Gragg, Mrs.
Pitts and Mesdames Will and Jess
Fulcher were sick last week, but
are able now to walk a little.
We dre having a good rain this
evening. I will give room for
others. A Reader.

Interview with J. C Jones.
The editor met Mr. J. C. Jones
last week and popped a few ques-
tions into him with the following
result :
How long before you intend to
return to Colorado, Mr. Jones?
"I expect to return in this
month so that I will be there by
Aug. 1.”
What do you think of the crop
prospect here compared to Colo-
rado?
"I think it is excellent from
what I have seen. Of course the
cotton is a little late but these late
rains and warm weather is just
right for cotton. I see a few idlers
around town that seems to me
would be better engaged in the cot-
ton fields than at base ball, but
that’s their business.”
What is the horse situation at
present? 1
‘‘Now Mr. Marks you are com*
ing'at me with horns straight for-
ward and I will have to answer
directly. Horses of the better
quality are bearing a fine price
everywhere. Everybody has voted
the scrub to the rear, and the en-
couraging feature now is to see the
fine stock that is coming to the
county. The young men are tak-
ing the matter in hand of intro-
ducing fine stock is indeed encour-
aging. If this introdnetion of fine
stock continues for a year or two
Jack county will demand of the
commissioners and others a first-
class fair ground to show their
stock and produce at the proper
seasons. By this I don’t want
anybody to think we advocate
gambling in anyway, but reason-
able competition. If the people of
Jack county wish fine stock let
them correspond with me at La-
junta, Rfd. No. a, Colorado and I
will guarantee the best that money
can buy and they are able to pay
for.”
How many horses have you 9old
under your last shipment?
‘‘I have sold seven at fair prices,
to test market. The remainder
will be left here for sale. I can
furnish heavier horses than those
lately shipped but of course at
higher prices. I will test the mar-
ket again next Saturday with
heavy mares and sucking colts.’

Information Wanted.
Bowie, Tex. July 13, 1907.
I am so anxious to get the name
of a gentleman in or near your
town I take this method of trying
to find him in, the hope that he
may see this and answer, it;
Last Thursday morning my hus-
band who was traveling and was
camped 3 or 4 miles north of
Jacksboro where our pet horse got
his leg broke and he was compell-
ed to leave him there. Now some
gentleman promised to see after
him and pasture him. Will that
gentle please write to me. The
hor$e being old is not of much
value only as a family pet and it
seems so hard for him to be there
where we cannot care for him.
My husband being so worried for-
got the man’s name. If the gen-
tleman sees this and will answer it
he will have the everlasting
gratitude of Mrs. Ida Aakins
