LEARNING ABOUT NUTRITION - Girl Scouts in Brownie Troop 86 and Daisy Troop 85,
along with 2 Juniors from Troop 228 held a joint meeting to learn about nutrition last week.
Butch Hanes, Food Service Director of Jacksboro’s school cafeteria, met with the girls to
discuss healthy eating habits, with particular emphasis on the importance of calcium in our
daily diets. The girls learned how important milk is to having healthy bones and teeth.
Nutritious snacks and milk were served for refreshments after the program. Pictured, left
to right, back row are: Butch Hanes, Food Service Director of cafeteria, Kate Burum, Amber
Davenport, Kristena Staton, Tiffany Bonner, Pamela Jenkins, Juniors Amber Gamer and
Dionne Collins, Melody Martin, Kayla Conway, Christine Zielinski, and Misty Jackson.
Front row: Lisa Alexander, Marisa Crenwelge, Meagan Shockley, Michelle Morris, Holli
Swift, Audra Deweber, Stephanie Fenter, Shea Hartzell and Amanda Barrett.
Meeting with the younger troop helped meet badge requirements for the third year
Brownies, as well as being fun for all of the girls.

Girl Scouts Observe
77 Years of Scouting
Heart of Texas Girl Scouts
and Girl Scouts of the U.S. A.
will be celebrating Girl Scout
Week March 12-18. This
year marks the 77th year of
Girl Scouting.
Many troops will be ob-
serving Girl Scout Week
with special activities such
as doing a community serv-
ice project, hosting ban-
quets, awarding earned rec-
ognitions to girls, and at-
tending church services on
Girl Scout Sunday, March ~
12.
Girl Scouts are learning to
"Take the Lead" in becoming
leaders of tomorrow. Jack
County Girl Scout Associa-
tion currently is represented
by 11 troops consisting of 104
girls and 47 adults. Girl
Scouts is open to girls in
grades Kindergarten
through 12. Qualified adult
volunteers lead troops, serve
on troop committees and
service teams. If you are
looking for a rewarding ca-
reer that's packed with lots
of fun and challenge, why not
consider becoming a Girl
Scout volunteer. If you are
interested, you may contact
Heart of Texas Girl Scout
Council at (915) 646-1516.
In troops, girls continue to
learn traditional values and
skills which include: camp-
ing skills, God and Country’
awards, and homemaking
skills. They are also learning
to live in and with a changing
world so they may become
positive contributors to soci-
ety. Girl Scouting helps girls
develop values, self-confi-
dence and leadership skills
to make decisions about *
their own lives and issues •
that affect all of us. Girl •
Scouting does this by offer-
ing programs about careers,
doing activities that focus on
contemporary issues such as
drug abuse and other forms
of abuse, dealing with di-
vorce or death in the family,
encouraging girls to learn
more about science and
math, and many more. All
the time the girls are learn-
ing, they are having fun as
Girl Scouts.
