Doug Gilder Sub Junior Champ
4-H Shooters In National
Trap Shoot In Ohio
COLEMAN COUNTY CHRONICLE
Doug ‘Gilder and Robert Beal
i participated in the Grand American
Trap Shoot in Vandalia, Ohio this
past week.
Doug was named the 1982 Sub
Junior Champion in the President’s
Grand American Handicap. He shot
97x100 targets and was tied with
Frank Gabeline of Utica, Michigan.
After a shoot off - which required
100 targets to break the tie - Doug
was declared the winner.
As many as 4,000 shooters partici-
pated during the week in each of the
ten events. Robert and Doug shot
with the best trapshooters in the
world. The participants were from
all over the United States, Canada,
New Zealand, Australia and pos-
sibly other countries.
Robert shot the first perfect
round of 100 targets ever recorded
by a member of the Coleman County
4-H Shooting Sports Club. This feat
came during the Dayton Home-
coming Singles event which includ-
ed 200 - sixteen yard targets. He
received a very prestigious pin for
the 100 straight.
In addition to the Handicap
Championship, Doug was listed in
the Top Ten of the Sub Junior
High-Overall, the Sub Junior High
All-Around, and the Class D High
Over-All. The computer read-out
was not available when he left, and
further information of his exact
placing in each of the Top Ten
groups is still not available.
In competition, Doug shot 915 out
of 1,000 targets. This included 200
doubles targets, 400 singles targets,
and 400 handicap targets.
, The boys were' accompanied to
the shoot by Lou and Joe Beal and
Larry Gilder. Pat Gilder joined the
group on Wednesday night.
Doug and Robert are being con-
sidered for the All-American ATA
Sub Junior Trap Team.
Each of the boys is looking for-
ward to attending the Grand Ameri-
can again next year and hope to
bring home more national cham-
pionship titles.
