searching for Texas’ rural
hero of 1980.
The Rural Heroism Award,
sponsored by the Council, is
presented annually to some
deserving person who has
performed an act of excep
tional bravery during a time
of crisis, according to Ben
Bullard, Council president
and assistant safety director
of the Texas Farm Bureau.
All entries mu'st be sub
mitted by March 1, 1981, to
the Rural Heroism Award
Committee, Texas Farm and
Ranch Safety Council, P.O.

The heroic act or human
life-saving deed must have
occurred within Texas dur-
ing 1980 and should be
related to farming or ranch-
ing operations.

the effects of the ofl and gas
industry on Central Texas
area landowners wiQ be held
Nov. 12 in the Silver Wings
Ballroom on Highway 105,
Brenham. Bastrop County
residents are invited to at-
tend.
The session will cover the
procedures used in recover-
ing minerals, oQ field opera-
tions, geological conditions
associated with oQ and gas
and th^ legal technicalities of
oil antjpu leases.
A panel of business and
industry experts will con-
duct the workshop which
includes a question and
answer session. Moderator
will be LeRoy Loesch, pres-
ident, First National Bank of
Brenham. Judon Fam-
grough of the Texas Real
Estate Research Center at
Texas A&M University and
an attorney with expertise
in oil and gas leasing negoti-
ations; Dr. Karl Koenig, as-
sociate professor of geology
at Texas A&M and formerly
with the She|l Oil Co.; and
Hugh Scott, attorney with
the Strata Energy Co. in
Houston, will make presen-
tations and serve as pan-
elists.
The workshop is being
jointly sponsored by the real
estate center, the Brenham
Board of Realtors and the
Agri-Business Committee of
the Washington County Pro-
gram Building Committee.
Deadline for registration
for the program is Nov. 10.
The $10 registration includes
publications and a barbecue
lunch.
Registrants should send
the fee along with their
