tus of the proposed State Head-

SERVICES FOR F. W.
CRIDER THURSDAY
Funeral services for Fred
Wilson Crider, 54, of Bishop,
who was killed late Saturday
afternoon in a car-truck acci-
dent nine miles north of Bandera
on FM 689, were held Thursday
at 2 p.m. Rites were conducted
in Kerrville Funeral Chapel with
the Rev. S. S. Akters of the Re-
vival Center officiating. Burial
was in Nichols Cemetery.
Mr. Crider and his wife, Olive,
were enroute to Kerrville at the
time. The hood of the car re-
portedly flew up, blinding Mr.
Crider temporarily, causing him
to sideswipe a truck operated by
Earl Leonard Turley of Kerr-
ville.
Mrs. Crider sustained a brok-
en leg and was treated at Sfd
Peterson Hospital. Mr. Crider
was pronounced head on arrival
at the hospital.
Turley was accompanied by his
wife and three children, none of
whom were injured, according to
the Department of Public Safety.
Mr. Crider was born in Kerr
County on December 2, 1914.
He is survived by his widow,
Mrs. Olive L. Crider of Bishop;
three daughters and three broth-
ers as well as a number of grand-
children and great-grandchildren.
THANK YOU GARDEN
CLUBBERS
As a non-member of any gar-
den club I should like to express
my appreciation for being in-
cluded on the tour of some of
the beauties of the Deep South
lately given by the Madrona
Garden Club of Bandera. It was
one of the most enjoyable tours
of its kind that I have ever
taken. The comfortable, well-
equipped party bus of the Kerr-
ville Bus company driven so
competently by the thoughtful
and accommodating Mr. Fitzsim-
mons was one thing that insur-
ed the success of the trip, as
well as the fine weather we had
every day. The loveliness of the
long shore drive through Pass
Christian to Pascagoula, the un-
believable beauty at this time o^
the year of the Bellingrath Gar-
dens in Mobile, the great oaks
and azaleas along the route, the
interesting ante-bellum homes in
Natchez, the charm of the Con-
federate Pageant that night,
which is the annual gala event
of high society in Natchez dur-
ing which the mayor found time
to welcome the Madrona Club of
Bandera by name, and the never-
to-be-forgotten fragrance of the
sweet olive that seemed to per-
meate every place, all these were
some of the delights we experi-
enced. And all these were made
comfortably possible through the
careful planning of those in
charge of the tour and insured
the whole trip being a smoothly
run affair that is a credit to the
Madrona Garden Club of Ban-
dera. May we non-members hope
to be included on another such
tour in the future?
