Givan recently travelled

there, he had a realization.
“One thing I realized in

would not be able to read to
their kids,” said Givan. “One
of the best things you can
do is read books with your
kids.”

program, though there are
a lot of reasons they don’t
come in, said Givan.
The FSC has its own little
free library. The Little Free
Library is a non-profit,
world-wide program,
established to promote
literacy and a love for read-
ing by building free book
exchanges and build a sense
of community. The local
Little Free Library was built
by Eagle Scouts Troop 22,
which includes Givan’s son,
Thomas.
“Its probably one of the
most high powered things
built. You had dentist drill-
ing it and doctors sawing
the pieces,” said Givan.
The Little Free Library is
located in front of the FSC
building. It is shaped like
a little house and is home
to several free books. They
only request that partici-
pants pay it forward, give
it to someone else to read
or return the book to the
library once they have fin-
ished. There is a steward of
the little library who stocks
it, but the library, itself,

belongs to everyone.
This is a non-threatening
way to expose people to
books, said Givan. People
can go to where the Little
Free Library is located and
simply take a book. There
are no forms to fill our or
information needed.
Those who donate books
to the library are encour-
aged to write notes in them
to whomever chooses the
donated book. For example,
a donor could write why he
or she donated this book
or what the book meant to
them.
FSC is hoping to place
their newest Little Free Li-
brary, in the shape of BBC’s
Doctor Who’s TARDIS, soon.
They also encourage others
to build their own little li-
brary in their neighborhood,
front yards or work place.
Little free libraries can be
built in all shapes and sizes
to reflect the person, family
or group that built it.
FSC’s Little Free Library
is registered with www.little-
freelibrary.org. This gives
travelers a chance to see
where the nearest library is
located in relation to their
travel plans.
If you are interested in
donating to the Little Free
Library or participating in
