of this weekend’s playoff game
between Woodsboro (runner-
up in 14-A-II) and Bartlett
(third place in 13-A-II). The
fackets’ area playoff game will
be next weekend.

Sabinal’s Adan Alejandro (17) battles D’Hanis receiver Daniel
Dickson for a long pass in the second quarter of Saturday’s
game. D’Hanis will open postseason play against Charlotte this
Friday evening in Natalia. Sabinal receives a first-round bye,
and will take on either Woodsboro or Bartlett next week.

ets went right to work offen-
sively. Matt Medina plowed up
the middle for 18 yards on first
down, setting the tone for the
evening, on the way to a 217
yard rushing effort.
In seven plays, including
runs by Medina and Skyler
Mireles, the drive was capped
by a four-yard TD keeper by
Dylan Lopez with 7:42 left in
the first quarter. Matt Medina
added the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
Nathan Young gained 18
yards on a first down keeper for
D’Hanis, but the drive stalled
three plays later, forcing a punt.
Sabinal drove into D’Hanis
territory, but Christian Tapia
ended the drive, intercepting a
Lopez pass and setting up the
Cowboys at their own 19.
Three keepers by Young net-
ted one first down, and a pass
from backup QB Robert Rugh
to Young, lined up at receiver
to take advantage of his height,
went for another 14 into facket
territory. But two sacks on the
next three downs forced an-
other D’Hanis punt.
Starting at their own 20 early
in the second half, the lackets
drove 80 yards in 10 plays, mix-
ing the run and pass evenly.
Lopez threw to fustice Gon-
zales for 19 yards and a first-
down, then hit Adan Alejandro
for 15 more on the next play.
Facing a 3rd-and-12, Lopez
connected with Mireles for a
27-yard gain to the 18. On 3rd-
and-18, Lopez went around
left end for the remaining 16
yards to the endzone with 6:17
left in the half. Medina’s extra
point took the score to 14-0.
The next four series all ended
with punts, with Lopez record-
ing an interception of a D’Hanis
pass on the final play of the half.
Sabinal began the second
half receiving the kickoff, driv-
ing 65 yards in 10 plays for the
score. The jackets overcame
two holding penalties on the
way. Twice, Lopez passed for
good yardage to Mason Miller,
with a couple of good runs
mixed in from Medina. The
lackets also benefitted from a
personal foul against the Cow-
boys to help convert a 3rd-and-
long. Lopez scored his third TD
of the game from the 8-yard
line. Medina’s PAT was wide.
D’Hanis picked up 23 yards
on a pass from Young to Tapia,
but again, the drive stalled,
forcing a punt.
On the first play, Medina
swept around left end and
sped 80 yards up the sideline
for a jacket touchdown. Young
blocked the extra point try,
leaving the score at 26-0 with
4:37 left in the third.
D’Hanis picked up two quick
first downs on a pair of Sabi-
nal personal fouls. Facing a
4th-and-13 moments later, the
Cowboys went into punt for-
mation. Young, however, threw
to Mitchell Hutto for 14 yards
