New Homecoming FeatureRepresentative Future Alumni, a
new feature to Howard Payne College
Homecoming, was initiated this year
as the freshman, sophomore, junior
and senior classes elected individuals
to represent each class respectively in
this event of the program.
Selected by the classes for the Rep-
resentative Future Alumni honor were:
David Reynolds, senior English major,
son of H. V. Reynolds, Waxahachie.
He is president of the student council,
pianist for the senior class, a member
of Life Service Band, Alpha Chi, and
was recently elected to Who's Who in
American Colleges and Universities.Robert B. Cooper, son of Rev. and
Mrs. R. B. Cooper, Dallas, a junior
English and Spanish major. He is a
member of the college Life Service
Band, Volunteer Mission Band, Mini-
sterial Association, Alpha Chi, and is
devotional vice-president of Howard
Payne B.S.U.
Joan Walker, a sophomore, is the
daughter of A. R. Walker, Houston.
She is a member of Life Service Band
and pianist for Howard Payne Hall
Y.W.A.
Edward Mercer, freshman Bible
major, and son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T.
Mercer of Round Rock.The-e students were given special
recognition during half-time activities
of HPC homecoming football game
Saturday afternoon, November 15, with
the McMurry Indians.
The classes elected the Representa-
tive Future Alumnus upon the basis of
qualities demonstrated by the in-
dividual on the campus. Qualities of
scholarship, student leadership, school
loyalty, and principals of moral, spirit-
ual and civic attainments which qualify
the individual as most likely to suc-
ceed as a future alumnus of the college

DR. T. R. HAVINS, of the history de-
partment, has two new grandsons born
on October 15 (who are not twins).
William Howard Havins was born to
Bob (BA '38) and Helen Albertson
(BA '42) Havins. He is their third son.
Bob is oil editor of Abilene Reporter
News, Abilene. Harrel Glenn was born
to Gordon (BA '49) and Mary Havins
(AB '48) Creel. They also have a two
year daughter, Peggy. Gordon is work-
ing for Stanolind Oil Company, La-
ramie, Wyo.
DR. W. A. TODD of the Bible de-
partment preached at Melwood Church,
Brownwood; Lipan Baptist Church and
Big Lake Baptist Church, during the
month of November. He also ordained
three deacons at the Big Lake church.
DR. D. D. TIDWELL preached at
First Baptist Church, Bangs and First
Presbyterian, Brownwood, during the
month of November. He also spoke at
First Baptist church, Temple, at a
banquet, on Nov. 20.
DR. A. A. BRIAN spoke at the Mills
Association Workers Conference; sup-
plied First Baptist Church, Rogers;
address to District 16 W.M.U., Santa
Anna; attended meeting of Texas Foun-
dation of Colleges, Houston; spoke
First Baptist Church, Floydada; ad-
dressed Workers Conference at Hock-
ley Cochran Association, Levelland;
preached Hodges Baptist Church,
Levelland; attended Texas Foundation
College meeting, Dallas; preached dedi-
cation sermon Brookesmith Baptist
Church.
DR. A. A. BRIAN spoke at prayer
meeting at First Baptist Church,
Brownwood; supplied in the pulpit at
Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Brown-
wood and First Baptist Church, Chil-dress; gave an address on Christian
Education, at Weatherford, Parker As-
sociation; conducted a revival meeting
in Immanuel Baptist Church, Odessa;
and supervised the HPC booth at the
Baptist General Convention, in Fort
Worth.
DEAN Z. T. HUFF spoke at First
Baptist Churches in San Saba, Lo-
meta, and Comanche during October.
WILLIAM R. PARKER directed the
Yellow Jacket Band in giving concerts
at Memorial Hall, Brownwood, on Oct.
6, honoring Sam Rayburn; for the HPC
Library dedication, Oct. 11; at Brown-
wood High School, Oct. 20; and the
half-time stunt at Seguin football game.
During October, DR. NAT TRACY
supplied at Richland Springs; taught
Sunday school classes at First church
and Coggin, Brownwood; conducted
prayer meeting, First church, Brown-
wood; and represented HPC at Alamo
Heights High School, San Antonio.
DR. W. A. TODD, head of the Bible
department, preached at First Baptist
Church, Cleburne, and Baptist Church,
Rising Star. He assisted in the ordina-
tion of preachers at Central Baptist
Church, Brownwood; Trigger Moun-
tain Church, Mills County; and Jones
Chapel Church, Brown County; and
delivered two other non-religious ad-
dresses in Brownwood.
DR. D. D. TIDWELL preached at
churches in Leander and Santa Anna.
He represented Howard Payne College
for Dr. Thos. H. Taylor at the inaugura-
tion of the president of Trinity Uni-
versity at San Antonio, and spoke at
closing session of San Antonio Baptist

Lois Wines Crowned
Homecoming Queen
Lois Wines, Howard Payne College
senior, was crowned homecoming queen
for 1952-53, at the homecoming foot-
ball game Saturday afternoon, Nov. 15,
between the HPC Yellow Jackets and
McMurry Indians from Abilene.
The queen, escorted by David Rey-
nolds, senior from Waxahachie and
president of the student council, was
presented a bouquet of white chrysan-
themums tied with blue and gold rib-
bons. Jack Lawson, Throckmorton,
president of the senior class, made the
presentation.
Attendants to the queen were Nancy
Barnes, junior from Brownwood, escort-
ed by Richard Hampton, Brady; Joyce
Barnes, senior from Houston, escorted
by Derrell Townsend Bartlett; and Ann
Baum, a sophomore from Cross Plains,
escorted by Bob Henderson, Talpa.
Miss Wines, a music major, who
comes from Memphis, has been class
favorite for the last three years. She
was recently elected to Who's Who in
American Colleges and Universities;
was chosen as one of the HPC beauties
last year; reigned assHarvest Queen
in 1951; has served as pianist of her
freshman, sophomore and junior classes
and is reporter of her senior class. She
is a member of various musical organi-
zations on the campus, including the
Madrigals, Oratorio and A Cappello
Choirs; and Piano Ensemble.

Ann Baum Named
Jacket Sweetheart
Ann Baum, Howard Payne College
sophomore, was presented as football
sweetheart Saturday afternoon, Nov.
15, at the homecoming game between
the Yellow Jackets and the Indians
from McMurry, Abilene.
She was escorted across the field by
Johnny Baker and Clyde Blair, mem-
bers of the team to receive the tradi-
tional football helmet of Jacket co-
captain Elvin Hill. Melvin White pre-
sented her with a bouquet of yellow
chrysanthemums tied with the Yellow
Jacket colors.
Master of ceremonies was Dr. A. A.
Brian, vice-president of the college,
who also announced the crowning of
Homecoming Queen and recognized
Representative Future Alumni of Ho-
ward Payne College.
Miss Baum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
W. P. Baum, Cross Plains, is a second-
ary education major.
She was reporter for her freshman
class, was a Howard Payne beauty last
year, and was a nominee for Home-
coming Queen, 1952-53.
She is a member of the Jacket Coeds.

Carole Pippen Named
Band Sweetheart
Carole Pippen, senior from Cisco,
Texas, was crowned sweetheart of the
Howard Payne Yellow Jacket band
preceding the Howard Payne-McMurry
football game, Saturday November 155.
She was escorted by Pat McShan,
president of the band.
In her honor and as part of the
coronation ceremonies, the band played
'The Night is Young and You're so
Beautiful." As the sweetheart received
the traditional bouquet of red roses
from W. R. Parker, band director, the
ensemble played "Let Me Call You
Sweetheart."
Miss Pippen is an art and secretarial
training major. She has been a
majorette with the band four years,
art editor of the annual three years,
secretary of the student body for 1951-
52, and is the present vice-president of
the student body.
She was recently named to Who's
Who in American Colleges and Uni-
versities.
