Elite All-stars receive top honors on- chosen
Look out, world, here come the
Elite All-stars. Last week this
group attended the National Cheer-
leaders Association All-star Cheer-
leading camp at SMIJ. The camp
consisted of over 600 cheerleaders
from Texas and surrounding states.
When the week was over, these
girls came home with most of the
top honors.
On the first night of camp, the
squad performed their home routine
and scored high enough to receive
an automatic bid to the NCA
National Championship in Febru-
ary. On the last day, the squad
received a spirit stick which goes to
squads which shows exceptional
enthusiasm all week long. They
also received the T.E.A.M. award
T.E.A.M. stands for Together
Everyone Achieves Miracles and
goes to the squad which exhibits
such traits as working together, get-
ting along with one another, and
also helping out other squads. The
squad also recieved several individ-
ual awards.
In the top jumper award, 267
girls and boys vied for the top ten
positions for the final competition.
Hey lee Dawson, Stefanie Spur-
geon, Amy Leverett, and Melissa
Orr took four of (he top ten spots
and when it was all over, Stefanie
was ranked number one. There was
also a lop tumbler award. ()ut of 80
participants, this time the award
went to Amy Leverett. For the (op
stunting team, lleylee Dawson, Ste-
fanie Spurgeon, Amy Leverett,
CHEFS FOR A DAY - Wylie ISD school board members
donned chef hats and aprons as they served a “good ole coun-
try-style" breakfast to more than 300 WISD employees as they
reported back to work last Wednesday for three days of staff
development and inservice training. Hoard members are
shown applauding the real cooks for the well-received event,
WISD’s food service department, headed up by Kristie Stone.
Assisting in service were WISD administrators. From left are
Mike Whitcomb, Rock King, Jim Hysaw, John Simmons, Hill
Collins, and Dr. Ted Trimble. The breakfast was held at
Hartman Elementary.

Education received special recognition during the district’s
ick-to-school convocation for all employees. In the photo are

will be held for the All-star squads
here in Dallas die first weekend in
February. The rest of the nation
better look out for the Elite All-
stars.

WISD employees were honored
with an "appreciation" breakfast
Wednesday morning before their
back-to-school workshop
After recognizing several local
businesses, including American
National Dank, Brookshires, The
Wylie News and flic Wylie
Supermarket lor their contributions
to WISD, Supl. Dr. John fuller
gave a brief presentation about die
state ol the district.
He indicated that WISD students
had excellent academic scores, but
more improvement was needed in
math. Dr. Fuller encouraged edu-
cators to closely monitor each stu-
dent’s progress, and maintain the
“family" atmosphere among the
teachers. 1 le also identified the dis-
trict’s goals and objectives for the
coming year.
Dr. Fuller also expressed his
appreciation to the WISD Board of
Trustees for dieir efforts in address-
ing the facility’s needs, and this
year’s budget.

same time the entry fee is. All tour-
naments will have paid umpires on
the field - 2 per field. Please keep
this schedule handy so you will
know when tournaments are
planned.
Attention: WAA will not tolerate
any cussing, harrassing or threaten-
ing remarks to the umpires or teams
playing. Person or persons respon-
sible will not be allowed to play
ball. No exceptions will be
made!!!! We are here to have a
good time so lets keep it that way.
All-American
The Elite All Stars attended an
All Star camp held at SMU Univer-
sity on July 24-27 where over 600
girls participated. This team is a
competitive
chcerleading
squad which is
made up of girls
from different
schools from
around the met-
roplex on a try^
out basis. Melis-
sa Orr was select-
ed NCA All American while
attending this SMU camp. Also,
she was selected as one of die top
ten jumpers from the camp. She
was also a member of a five team
group that received first place in
the Top Gun Stunting competition.
The squad received a bid to com-
pete in the Natinal All Star Cheer-
leading competition held in Febru-
ary. As an All American she has
the opportunity to go to Hawaii to
the Aloha Bowl during Christmas
and perform at die halftime festivi-
ties that will be nationally tele-
vised. Melissa is also a member of
the Wylie Pirate JV Squad where
they received several honors at a
prior SMU camp. If you would like
