Jewish Soldier Ploys
Role of Christ For
Eastertide Pageant
LAWTON, Okia., (UPI — A
Jewish soldier from Brooklyn,
N. Y., will be one of four persons
portraying Christ in the 26th
annual Wichita Mountain Easter
pageant near here Sunday.
Joe Blum, 22-year-old soldier
stationed at nearby Fort Sill,
Okia.. was assigned the part in
the Christian pageant after get-
ting permission from his mother,
an orthodox Jew.
Rev. Lambert Orton, director
of the Sunrise service, said Blum
has no previous dramatic experi-
ence, but has “amazing natural
ability.”
Several persons portray the
same character in lhe pageant
because of the distance between
stages in the natural amphi-
theater where the service is held.
The pageant starts at 2 a. m. and
ends after sunrise.
Navy Regrets Any
Mention of Guided
Missiles Program
WASHINGTON (UP) — The
navy said that it “regrets” pub-
lication of an announcement by
United Aircraft Corp. that it has
been making guided missiles "for
some years” under navy con-1
tract.
United Aircraft said in its an-;
nual report that guided missiles
are in limited production at the i
Dallas, Tex., Chance Vought |
plant. Chance Vought is a ma-
jor division of United Aircraft.
The announcement said the
missiles are flying but that all
details are deep secrets.
The navy refused to deny or
confirm this or to comment on
the announcement except to say
that it regrets its publication
The United Aircraft announce-
ment said:
‘Chance Vought has been for
some years working under a
navy contract for guided mis-
siles. While this work is highly
classified, we are permitted to
sav that the missiles are in lim-
ited production for experiment-
al use, and that they are flying.”
