Cheryl Pressley was the lead
tog scorer for Taft with 23 points
but she was followed closely by
Becky Dorman and Carolyn
Smith with 17 each, Linda Gib-
son made 2 and Bits Green got
credit for 1 point. Guards play-
lag in the game were Gad Hisey,
Sherri Gossett, Brenda Jeffer-
son, Roxanne Schmidt and
Daphne Gibson.
The Taft girts took an early
lead in the game, scoring 17 to
9 for West Oso in the first quar-
ter. By halftime they held a 38-
to-17 lead.

A strong second quarter, in
which Goins hit for 20 (Mints

Goins hit a season high with
24 points followed by Montgom-
ery 15, Reyes 6, Hinojosa 5, Bert
Vasquez and Fred Davis 2 each,
and 1 for Josserand.
The Pups shot 59 times, hitting
23 of them, for a 39 percent
norm. The Pup* had 47 re
bounds led by Montgomery with
14, Davis 12, and Hinojosa 10.
This was the final tournament
scheduled for the Pups this year.
They did quite well in the two
tournaments by winning 5 of the
6 games played and winning a
first and a second place trophy.

ago. She was a housewife and a
practical nurse. She Is survived
by her husband, Robert F. Lo-
per; three trothers, E. E. God-
sey and W. W. Godsey, both of
Freer, and Quenton Godsey of
Kemille; one sister, Mrs.
Wayne Haynes of Corpus Chris-

Everyone will have their eyes
on the game in Aransas Pass to
see if the Panthers can come
through in this crucial game. Ar-
ansas Pass was more-or-less giv-
en the nod as the pre-season fa
vorile, but Sinton was also pick-
ed to finish in the top.

Game To Pirates
The Taft B team took an early
lead last Friday night in their
game with Sinton and held a 19-
to-16 halftime lead, but the Pi-
rates came back strong in the
last hail to win 48 to 39.
Andy Felkncr paced the Taft
boys with 11 points while Kim
Davis made 10, Scott 1 toots 8,
Kenton Floerke 4, and Dana Col-
lavo 6.
The Taft Pups moved their
season record to 12 wins and 1
losses as they won two district
games this past week. The vic-
tims were Bishop, 50-42, and
West Oso, 58 44.
This gives the Pups a district
record of 8 wins and 1 loss,
which is good enough for a tie
for the district lead with Robs-
town and Grego ry- Port land.
The Pups displayed fine shoot-
ing against Bishop by hitting
on 22 oi 47 field goal attempts
for 47 percent. After taking an
early lead, the Pups continued
to build the lead with quarter
scores being 16-15, 35 23, 44
31, and the final 50-42.
Mark Montgomery led all Pup
scorers with 24 but had excellent
support from other team mem-
bers as Dennis Goins got 15, Cal-
vin Reyes 4, Leonard Hutto 3,
and Johnny Josserand and
George Hinojosa 2 each.
Taft had an excellent, team ef-
fort in getting 40 rebounds.
Montgomery had 12, Goins 8,
Hutto 7, Josserand 0, and Hino-
josa 5. __
GirJs Volleyball
Tournament Set
For March 25, 26, 27
championship in 14 \AA w ill be
decided in a three-day round ro-
bin tournament set for March 25,
26 and 27. The games will be
played in the Gregory-Poriland
High School Gym.
Teams that are taking part
in volleyball this year are Ar-
ansas Pass, Bishop, Sinton, Taft,
Flour Bluff. Gregory-Portland
and West Oso.

A meeting of the Busy Bee
Club is scheduled for Thursday
at 2 p m. in the home of Mrs.
Clifford Turner with Mrs. John
Hill as co-hostess.
