“All teachers in the Taft
schools Including the Negroes
are paid as much as Hie salary
schedule law recently passed.
About five of the teachers are
paid above the schedule because
they hell esmtracts, equivalent to
last year's salary, which were Is-
sued before the salary schedule
law was passed.
“In looking over the salary
schedule report that was sent to
Austin, state officials noticed
that ail of ottr teachers were not
on the same schedule. The re-
port was given to the press that
Taft was charged with pav dis-
crimination. I have phoned Mr.
Trimble, assistant star* superin-
tendent. and explained tlx- reason
for iitir over-payment of these five
teachers, and h» has Riven me
permission to notify all papers
that Taft's schedule will he of-
ficially approved, and that we are
definitely not threaten-d with
loss of college accreditation "
