/ess jawin Oilsters and Pipelines
In last week’s corner we pointed out, to President Carter, that one of the
basic chronic problems in the Middle East is OIL.
Many know how we feel about the Oilsters - the manipulators of nations and
people who do not care who slaughters whom as long as their investments
and pipelines are protected.
I The “pipelines” are, in many cases, direct conduits to the leaders in power.
Moreover, it is well documented that many multi-national oil corporations
have helped put a stooge in power for the purpose of controlling the natural
resources of the subjugated nation.

_Do not think that the Soviet Union is any different. They’ve robbed their
Satellites of precious raw materials and have managed to get international
Approval for their actions with the Ford Administration’s verification of
ieir incorporated boundaries at the Helsinki Conference.
But we are talking of OIL - and that should bother each of us - especially in
iew of the damage to the flow of the precious black gold through the
ilaskan pipeline.
m>id you know that the recent price increases imposed by the OPEC nations
Sill account for more than 10 billion dollars in additional revenue to the
diddle East Oilsters?
Moreover, nations like France, Italy, Great Britain and developing
sountries are severely affected by these price increases. This could easily
;ause radical upstarts to try to topple the governments. Replacement
rtvernments would soon find themselves faced with the same problems of
fttting the precious black gold to keep their economies going.
The Arabs have considered this. What they’re doing is trading a small
portion of their oil for a large portion of real estate and other valuable
possessions and arms in Western nations. They may get away with it
presently but the day will soon come when the boomerang will hit and hit
bard!
■)f course, when that day arrives, Arabs will be well entrenched through
Tlummy” corporations in their newly acquired real estate ventures. They
will find themselves owning a good share of London real estate, businesses
in France, Italy and West Germany and a substantial amount of diversified
holdings in the United States - from banks to real estate and large
corporations in many states.
^But we doubt that people will forget too soon that a scant few years ago - in
1)73 - lettuce cost 19 cents a head, tomatoes a few cents more a pound,
niions 10 cents and under per pound and potatoes a little over $1 a sack.
Apartment rents were fairly priced as were utilities.
But the oilsters could not have it that way - not with having a chance to pull
the greatest rip-off the world has ever seen.
■The gouging is still escalating and going on.
inflation is a communicable disease. It feeds its high fever from one group
to the next and until the patient or public explodes it continues to create its
havoc on economies and lives.
Let’s not forget it.
Meet’s place the blame where it belongs. The food you eat would be at least 50
lercent cheaper, the utilities you use 33 percent less expensive, the medical
care you receive would cost fewer dollars, the taxes and rent you pay much
less if the Arab Oil Producing States did not combine with the international
oil cartels and play Ripoff with the people of the world.
They did and they still are.
■That’s what we’re paying for and will continue to pay through the nose until
le use our ingenuities and find some energy replacements.
When that happens they’ll plead with us to buy oil at $2.00 per barrel - not
$15.00 - if there are takers!
Carter Explains
U.S. Foreign Polity
To Jewish Leaders
BY DAVID ETTINGER
WASHINGTON [JTA] -
White House Counsel Rob-
ert Lipshutz said that
President Carter’s meeting
last week with more than 40
American Jewish leaders
“was not a question of
allaying anxieties” in the
American Jewish commun-
ity. “It was a question of
making certain that every-
body who was there fully
understood what the policy
of the Administration is,
what the hopes of the
Administration are and on
the other hand, what are the
concerns and interests of
the American Jewish com-
munity,” Lipshutz said at
the Overseas Writers Club
in response to questions.
He declined to go into
detail about the meeting.
But he said it was a “very
constructive” one “in which,
I believe, a lot of people both
in the Administration and in
the group of Jewish leaders
who were there got a much
fuller understanding of
what Administration poli-
cies are and what the
problems are and what the
anxieties are.”
Lipshutz would not com-
ment when he was asked if
he felt the Administration
had indulged in too much
discussion of details of a
possible Middle East settle-
ment and thereby prompted
Israeli concern over the
possibility of an imposed
settlement. He said, how-
