Acting upon a recommen-
dation from the Community
Relations Council of the
Jewish Welfare Federation
of Dallas, Dr. Stanley
Pearle, Federation Presi-
dent, has designated Sidney
Stahl to represent the Dallas
Jewish Community at the
Second World Conference on
Soviet Jewry.
This major world confer-
ence is taking place in
Brussels from February
17th-19th, just five years
after a similar assembly.
The decision to convene this
second assembly was taken
at an international consulta-
tion in Paris, following an
evaluation of the current
critical state of affairs of
Jews in the Soviet Union.
The evaluation showed that
emigration is at is lowest
ebb in four years while
harassment is ominously
increasing.
Mrs. Golda Meir will serve
as Honorary Chairwoman of
the Conference and will
deliver a major address,
Joining her will be import-
ant political personalities
from Europe and the United
States, along with a signifi-
cant presence of prominent
non-Jewish leaders.
Mr. Stahl, very active in
civic affairs, currently
serves as President of the

Recreation Board. A former
Chairman of the Dallas
Federation Community
Relations Council and
former Board Member of the

Two dozen Arab high school
students were arrested for
throwing rocks at police
during a demonstration
against Jewish prayer
services on the Temple
Mount in the Old City.
About 500 East Jerusalem
high school students partici-
pated in the demonstration
to protest the acquittal by a
local magistrate of a group
o'f Betar activists who
conducted a prayer service
on the Temple Mount which
houses the Mosque of Omar
and the El Aksa Mosque.
Later police arrested 26
Arab students for molesting
East Jerusalem storeowners
who refused to close their
shops in solidarity with the
protest.
