DALLAS SECTION
Dallas Save-A-Life
By “BUNNY” MAYERS
Hello Everyone!
We. have been knee deep trying to bake one of our orange cakes,
when we were interrupted several times by phone calls wanting the
recipe—so since we are in the midst of writing our column, thought it
would be nice to supply this recipe for everyone:
My Flavorite Recipe
/
ORANGE CAKE
1 cup sugar % cup sour milk or buttermilk
Vz cup shortening 2 cups flour
2 eggs 1 teaspoon soda
a pinch of salt, 2 tablespoons grated orange rind, juice and grated
rind of one orange mixed with V2 cup sugar.
Cream together sugar, shortening, eggs; add osur milk or butter-
milk (you can sour milk by adding one tablespoon vinegar to milk).
Sift together flour, soda and salt, and add to first mixture. Add two
tablespoons grated orange rind. Bake at 375 F. for 30 to 40 minutes
in a greased 9-inch tube pan. After cake is baked leave in pan and
while cake is still hot, pour over it slowely, the juice and grated rind
of one orange and mixed with V2 cup of sugar. Punch small holes
in cake with ice pick to allow orange mixture to soak into cake. This
cake can be wrapped in foil and kept quite some time.

League, we can find several mem-
bers who really work without any
fanfare. Such a member is our
Ruth Lax. Ruth is a mother of
two very active sons, yet she finds
time to do anything that is asked
of her. She doesn’t hold an office,
but whenever she calls for help
on any project she manages to get
cooperation. Ruth is in charge of
the cojpmittee to get workers for
volunteer duty, such as helping
out the Tuberculosis Association
with stuffing envelopes with Xmas
Seals. Now the T.-B. Association
has issued an S.O.S. for follow up
work on the seals which have not
been paid for. Ruth got on the
phone and those who responded to
her call are: Mines. Schram, Flor-
ence Einsohn, Zelda Tobias, Joyce
Berkman, Charles Wolf’ Sadie
Blechman, Phyllis Rudnick, Zelda
Cohn, Bessie Dombrowsky, Edith
Goldstritch, Esther Mehlman, Ber-
nard Katz, Sylvia Russ, Sadie Ha-
berman and Sylvia Barnett. You all
deserve a great big thank you, but
to you, Ruth, a great big pat on
the back and keep up the good
work!
We hear that Becky Giller and
Rae Banks are on the sick calll.
We hope that they are getting
along fine and will be out of the
hospital quickly.
Ida and Lou Schwartz just mov-
ed into a lovely new home. We
hope your home will be filled with
happiness.
The Irwin Kays are hanging
out diapers again. Congratulations
on the birth of Nancy Ann.

INVITATION TO A WEDDING
My friend, Father Victor Donovan of St. Joseph’s Passionist
Monastery at 3800 Frederick Avenue, Maryland, sends me a pamphlet
he wrote on his hope of the, ultimate conversion of Jews to Christianity,
by grace of Mary, the mother of Jesus. His pamphlet’s title: “Our
Lady and Israel.”
It contains all the kindness of a friendly invitation—indeed, to a
wedding; since Father likens the hope-for conversion of the Jews to
a marriage with “the Royal Bi’idegroom” Jesus.
He counsels Catholics to be kindly hosts to the Jews toward the

TO BE HONORED
Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Harris will

The honoree will be escorted by
Harold Schneider. Miss Ida Ann

guest book. The co-hostesses will
fections for the Jewish people. Let us look upon every act of kindness
performed in His Name as so much wine of Divine Love. Every time
we check the tongues of bigots who speak evil against the Jew we are
showing forth God’s power of charity. Every prayer we say, every
rosary we hold up to Mary- every Mass we offer to God, will be the
precious wine that will gladden the hearts of those Jews whom the
Heavenly Father has invited to the wedding feast of His Son.”
Well, an invitation requires
polite answer, in accordance
with RSVP,, and so, I address
Father Donovan: My dear
Father Donvvan: You and I
have understood each other so
well enough that I am sure you
will take no offense at
