North - Haven Plans To Help
Students With Special Program
Migrants Aided by United Bias Service
.Arrive in the U.S. on Chartered Plane
■ A therapy-oriented program at- to training this child, are unique
[tempts to help each student lessen
his academic and social limita-
tio.'s at the North-Haven School,
Jjnc., CO08 Fairmount.
Each child is psychologically
Itested to discover individual
[strengths and weaknesses before*
[his curriculum is determined.}
fallen special attention is given toj
cademic deficiencies and social
eeds; his entire development is
sought.
‘Most parents give up if their
children haven’t mastered certain
subjects by adolescence,” said
Ben Engelberg, director of the
school. “They have the false im-
pression that learning can’t take
place after the ‘peak’ early teens.”
The school stresses an intensive
academic program; subjects are
geared to the oapacity of the stu-[
dent while the material is chosen!
to appeal to his chronological age.j
Independent work habits are en-
couraged, aimed at self-reliance.
Each student works in an ac-
celerated program, moving at his
own speed toward his maximum
[performance level.
j While developing academic
jski’Is and self-motivation, students
jean take advantage ol North-Ha-
jven’s. pre-vocational training. This
•area of learning prepares the ado-
(lescent to enter the wo'king world
.or to be self-sufficient in our com-
petitive society. Office and cleri-
cal skills are taught, as well as
homemaking and other domestic
arts.
j “The school’s positive attitude!
jtoward the slow learner’s ability!
to improve skills, along with an1
individual, therapeude aoproach
attributes of the school,’
Mr. Engelberg.

In his second start, however,
Koufax fared less successfully,
and this time against a compari-
tively weak team, too—‘the
Houston NL entry. Sandy had
good control and fanned four,
but in the sixth inning, the
Colts caught hold of him and
sent eight batters to the plate.
The Dodgers lost and Ko<ufax
took the defeat on his record.
After his first win, Koufax
said that “ the finger didn’t
bother me a bit.” Now that he’s
healthy once again, Sandy had
better win, if his team is to make
a big move toward the flag.
Without him, the Dodgers are in
deep trouble. With him, their
chances are very good to go all
the way, but only if his form is
that of last year, before he was
hurt. _
