A Time For Joy - Hanuka

» Hanuka Is a time of joy. It brings the added lights of the
? Hanuka candles at the season of the year when the days grow
I shorter. It brings ‘Hanuka gelt” and other gifts to make the
1 children hanny. For those who are not susceptible to these all-
n uroments, there are the Hanuka latkes. Even the most un-
H romantic, unpcetic and less faithful must surely rejoice when
-T tempted by appetizing Hanuka latkes.
«
U Beyond all of the material considerations, there is of course
2 the transcend'ng religious and philosophical message of Hanuka,
3 the lesson that truth, however weak, is not entirely an orphan
g In this world where might seems so often to prevail. .
3
« The Hanuka candles have a particularly bright glow this
I « year. The story of the Maccabeans and the story of the Six Day
2 War are in many ways interchangable. In the days of old it
5 was the Syrian dictator, Antiochus, who sought to destroy
5 Israel. More recently, the Syrians have been equally ardent in
seeking Jewish destruction. However, the primary role this
| time was taken by the Egyptian Nasser abetted by the Syrian,
!i the Jordanian, the1 Iraqi, the Algerian et cetera and more et
2 cetera.
5
j However, as in the davs of old, the God of Israel neither
S Slumbering or sleeping, came to our assistance. Not only was Is-
< rael gladdened, but the whole free world breathed relief at the
► collapse of'the Kremlin-Arab combination of Satan.
I So with a heightened fervor, let us kindle anew the candles
4 and a happy Hanuka to all.
