Charles Grodman, [center] who is 69 years young, was
recently awarded a King Foundation Scholarship for the
third consecutive time. Grodman is shown with Hilda Linn,
who is in charge of the Children’s program at Brookhaven
i College. Charles spends one hour weekly with the children
* — playing with them and helping them learn music
4 appreciation. To qualify for a King Foundation Scholarship,
a candidate must be 55 or older and have the ability to
mingle and interact with people. A Brooklyn, N.Y. native,
and Dallas resident since 1975, Grodman is currently
studying Auto Mechanics at Brookhaven and Manufactur-
ing Process at Richland. He and his wife, Pearl, will
celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary on
[ February 3.
We’ve heard that the
Solomon Schechter Acad-
emy of Dallas plans to hold
its annual city-wide carnival
and flea market on Sunday,
March 21. The flea market
will be held in Kaplan
Auditorium. Tables will be
available for rental to
exhibit objects of art,
handicrafts, samples or
paintings. For additional

Before Janet Aronoff,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin S. Aronoff became
the bride of Ben Scott Marz
of Minneapolis, on Jan. 17, at
Temple Shalom, she was
honored with a series of
parties. A Luncheon and
Shower on November 27, at
the Columbian Club was
given by Mmes. David
Frankfurt, Aaron Klausner,
Julius Coleman, Irving Wal-
lerstein, Howard Glick, Gary
Kahn and Michael Feinstein.
On January 15, a Shabbat
Dinner at the Columbian
Club was given by Messers
and Mesdames Joe H.
Golman, Jack Goodman,
Abner J. Aronoff, Henry
Schlinger, Charles Wolf, and
Donald Golman. A Brunch at
Harper’s Corner, the Hilton
Inn, was hosted by Messers
and Mesdames Bennett

Akiba Academy will hold
their annual Open House on
Wednesday, Jan. 27, 7:45
p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 2,
9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The
Open House, sponsored by
the PTA, was created to
welcome the community into
the school and share the
good things that happen
with children there.
Visitors will have the
opportunity to walk into
classrooms where creative,
enthusiastic teachers stimu-
late children to explore and
learn about their world. The
atmosphere is loving where
a child’s self image can grow.
Each child is looked at as an
individual with his own
strengths and weaknesses.
With sensitivity and know-
ledge of each child, the staff
and parents work together
to meet the needs of the
child. The teachers work
with Principal, Rabbi Joshua
H. Mosak; Guidance Counse-
lor, Rabbi David Leibtag
and in Pre-School with
Director, Hanna Lambert.
The curriculum at Akiba
Academy is designed to
develop such higher cogni-
tive skills as analysis,
problem solving and evalua-
tion which are significant
tools for higher learning.
Emphasis is piaceti
developing intellectual pro-
cesses. Akiba also offers an
innovative Challenge Pro-
gram which seeks to address
the needs of the academical-
ly gifted students.
Students experience the
joy and pleasure of Shabbot
and holidays while learning
about their rich heritage.
According to Rabbi Mosak,
with young people having
the privilege of attending
new citizen
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence S.
Kohn, 7133 Crooked Oak,
announce the birth of their
daughter, Lauren Michelle,
on January 19, at St. Paul’s
Hospital.
Grandparent honors are
shared by Mr. and Mrs.
Murray Austein and Mr. and
Mrs. Daniel B. Kohn, all of
Dallas. Proud great-grand-
parents are Mrs. Abe Polak
of Dallas and Mr. and Mrs.
Nathan Blaweiss of Brook-
lyn N.Y. Mr. and Mrs. Kohn
are also parents of a
daughter, Melissa Ann, 7.
