Whitton honored for service to city
Cleveland city employee Clarence Whitton was honored August 11 for his forty years
service to the City of Cleveland.
Whitton began working for the city back in 1958 as a lifeguard at the city pool. He later
worked the garbage truck. He also worked for the water/sewer department, later becoming
superintendent of that department. Additionally, Whitton served as Director Of Public Works in
1981. He was the first recipient of the Employee Of The Month Award in September 1993 and later
again in December 1995. In 1989, Whitton was commended for his unselfish coverage of call-outs
due to water damage caused by frozen water lines during the Christmas holidays.
Whitton has earned various water/wastewater licenses and has been a member of the Green
