Dublin working on
storm preparedness
Dublin dodged more
weather bullets this past
week but the threats have
resulted in a plan of action in
the event disaster does
strike.
Surrounding communities
have not been as fortunate as
Blanket was hit by a twister
Monday afternoon about 5
p.m., severely damaging
school facilities. No one was
injured but the school has
announced that due to the
recent tornado damage,
Blanket ISD has concluded
the 2012-2013 school year as
of now. School officials
announced “We are working
hard to assess and repair the
damage.”
The storm that appeared to
be approaching Erath County
and Dublin shifted to the
east, dumping large amounts
of rain - 6 to 10 inches - on
various communities. The old
Harmony Community near
Lake Comanche received
more than six inches plus
three hours of continuous
small hail and high winds.
That hail and heavy rain
continued on into Gustine
and Hamilton with Hamilton
receiving more than two
inches and Pottsville more
than four inches. There had
been reports of a tornado in
the Gustine area but that was
not confirmed.
All creeks in the Comanche-
Hamilton County areas were
reported to be running bank
full.
In Dublin, a number of
activities were cancelled
including a school board
meeting and a Rotary Club
hamburger supper for the
Dublin Fire Department.
There was a tornado
warning for Dublin but only
high wind and occasional rain
developed. Most of the cloud
damage went to the East.
Dublin and Stephenville
schools were let out early the
following day as the tornado
warning returned but the
danger was gone by mid
afternoon.
There was severe damage
forecast last Wednesday night
when hail hit Huckabay and
the cloud moved in with a
deadly tornado hitting
Granbury (see related photos
on page B12).
As a result of these threats,
the City of Dublin is seeking
shelters. The police chief is
the designated emergency
management coordinator
with City Hall designated as
the staging area from where
people will be moved to
churches and schools in the
event of a disaster.
City Manager Lannie Lee
who continues to be police
chief until the new chief
arrives June 3, is seeking
locations for underground
shelters and school facilities
can be opened in the event of
an immediate threat as the
old high school/junior high
and gym have basements.
The gym basement served as
a shelter for out of town
guests attending a volleyball
league game.

READY- SET - DIVE! - Splash day for the Dublin swimming pool will next Thursday,
May 30. Lee Leatherwood and pool manager Holly Harris have been busy getting
things ready. The City has been busy draining the pool and helping to clean. The
Proctor Country Club pool will open Saturday as does the Stephenville Spashville. No
life guard is on staff at the PAR pool.
