Sept. 21 was the first meeting
of the year for members of the
Eumathian Club. The meeting
was held in the home of Cissy
Boone.
President Bonnie Lewis opened
the meeting by welcoming guest
Fran Swanson and speaker Dr.
Louise Alton.
Alton was introduced by Car-
leta Miller. Alton is president of
the Texas Federation of Women’s
Club-Pioneer District.
She gave an informative talk
about the federation and ex-
plained how a small group can
easily get big things accom-
plished such as her mother’s
group that started a library.
’They found space, collected
books, and had cards printed.
This was years ago and now this
library is .one of the finest in the
state,’’ said Alton.
This year the National Federa-
tion is taking on the project of
doing away with illiteracy. The
federation met with Lieut. Hobby
and learned what had to be done
to beat this problem.
They also discussed teen pre-
gnacy and drug abuse. Commit-
tees were assigned to these
problems, also.
Each committee chairman
then gave her report. The pro-
grams will be dealing with this
year’s theme, “Learning From
the Past, Preparing For the
Future.”
The yearbooks, made by Cissy
Boone, were given out at the
meeting. Hostesses were Mary
Norris and Betty Bush.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Bonnie Lewis.
