Dear Eugenia
‘Swap’ proposal upsets wife
Dear Eugenia:
I think my husband has lost
his mind! He has just turned 41
and I swear he has gone
crazy.
He has been suggesting for
months that we join a local wife
swapping club. I thought he was
laying that
of the rut
kidding but now he Is really pre-
ssing tne issue and !
we need to get out
we’ve fall Into. I don’t think I'm
In a rut.
The Idea of my husband hav-
ing sex with strangers Is re-
pulsive to me. Nor can I Imagine
having sex with two men at the
same time, even if they are well
respected, upstanding members
Dragonflies bigger
Giant ancestors of today’s dra-
gonflies were flying before birds
or flying reptiles existed. Some
had wingspans of 30 inches on

I am really hung up on old
fashioned Ideas as my husband
savs or Is my husband (and the
others in that swap group) going
through the middle-age crazies?
How can I keep my principles
and my husband too?
Sane, I think(hope)
Dear “Sane,”
It is very difficult to com-
promise one's own principles
and personal morals, even if one
loves their spouse very much.
Sexual issues are extremely sen-
sitive and they bring out one’s
vulnerability and touch one’s
inner psyche.
Have you discussed wavs to
liven-up vour marriage with your
husband, such as work on
romancing each other or taking a
brief vacation away, together.
I suggest that the two of you do
more talking about vour own
values and expectations within
the marital relationship.
There is a tremendous risk that
can come out of experimenting
with outside sexual liaisons that
can put your marriage (and the
other’s) in jeopardy. In the long
run, you will have to think if you
want to "get out of the rut” work-
ing together, or take the zany
(and dangerous) way out that
your husband suggests.
You both need to lists the pro’s
and con’s of the arrangement he
has in mind. Generally those
types of experiences create anger,
jealousy and feelings of inade-
quacy in people.
In addition, they tend to have a
negative effect on people's friend-
ships. You will have difficulty
maintaining long standing friend-
ships with people you are in-
volved with.
There is another risk you both
will need to think about. I would
nol buy the excuse of “middle-life
crazies." When it comes to
marriage, people need to realize
thal il was never meant to be easy
and lun all ihe time.
Your husband is an adult and
he needs to lake responsibility
and look al his commitment to
the marraige. You will need to
slick with your principles and
make an effort to communicate
your feelings with him.
No one should ever com-
