—-Blood mobile will
visit Burleson twice
JCCA Meals
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1
Litman noted that a Carter blood-
mobile will visit Burleson twice next
week. On Thursday, Jan. 13, the
bloodmobile will be at Burleson City
Hall from noon through S p.m. It will
be at Wal-Mart in Burleson on Fri-
day, Jan. 14, from noon through 4
p.m.
"We need donors here and feel
that we can get them if we can con-
vince people that this is a critical
situation," Litman said. Shesaidblood
is needed for victims of trauma, major
surgeries and obstetrics, none of
which can be postponed to a more
convenient date. The Carter spokes-
person added that despite low dona-
tion levels, area hospitals have been
able to move blood between them-
selves when needed. The Carter cen-
ter supplies blood to Johnson and
Tarrant County hospitals.
Litman noted that for the nation
as a whole, less than 5 percent of
eligible blood donors actually give
blood. There would be no problem
now if that percentage could move
up, she said.
Asked what flu sufferers should
do, Qualls of MinorEmergency said:
"They should have had the flu shot"
Flu vaccine is still available, she said,
but since the vaccine takes six weeks
to take effect it may be too late in the
flu season for it to do any good.
"We'll still give you a flu shot
but we won't promise that it will do
you any good," she said. The best
preventative is to get a flu shot before
the flu season begins, around early
October.
"Most of the people we've seen
did not get the flu shot" Qualls re-
ported.
