This year, Valentine’s Day may
mean more than candy and lace
hearts.
Hie American Heart Association
and the Texas Association of Student
Councils have developed an an-
ti-smoking program railed Save a
Sweet Heart, which begins January
18th. The highlight of this program is
a day of no smoking on Valentine’s
Day, called Save a Sweet Heart
(SASH) Day.
Four weeks before SASH Day the
Student Council Health and Safety
Committee will start hanging posters
in the halls of Dublin High School.
These posters show happy, attractive
non-smokers enjoying life while
smokers look on. This is the opposite
of die carefree and successful image
of smokers portrayed in most
cigarette advertisements.
There will also be a short quiz that
will be given to the health classes.
Along with the quiz there will also be
pledge cards, buttons, and facts
about smoking given on morning an-
nouncements. The pledging starts
February 1st. Smokers promise not to
smoke on SASH Day, and
non-smokers promise not to start
smoking within the following year.
Teachers are also encouraged to
pledge. Encourage your friends to
participate. Let’s help to combat this
nasty habit.
