MRS. ROBT. HACKBARTH
The Coffee Circle met with
Mrs. O. E. Ilaekbarth Tuesday
morning of the past week. Those
enjoying the morning were Mes-
dames E. D. Paged, Edwin Mar
esh, Walter Barker, Cassel Buck-
ley, J. J. Strauss, C. W. Siiliman,
Johnnie Haran, and C. Moody.
Refreshments served consisted
of Angel food cake, Coke, salad,
open ham sandwiches, apricot
ball and coffee.

Henry Westbrook of Galves-
ton visited tlie Kedulkas here

Rev. M. S. Freuh called on O
E. Ilaekbarth. one day the past
week.
In giving the names of the
ladies from here attending the
Convention of Women Federation
at Freeport recently, Mrs. Ernest
Pagel and Mrs. Raymond llult-
quist were unintentionally omit-
ted.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Huscman

Buckleys here and the Henry

recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pelt of

the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rokohl
of Orange Grove are visiting
their daughter and family, the
Monroe Dullnigs for a few days.
This week the- task of picking
a winner is not only difficult,
but an emotional strain as well.
The fates have decreed that we
do battle with our best friend,
a man who has always had our
best” wisiies for success, D. J.
Byrne. We are aware of lire
fact that day in and day out D.
J. Byrne has the power and the
nonchalant efficiency to put us
away. We are also aware of the
fact that for dogged determina-
tion and unconscious luck we how-
to no man. Therefore, in all hu-
mility, we pick the two men to
play for the Club Champion next
week as Bill Gossett and Ed Due-
now, Let a plague take the man
who cannot believe in himself.
In the First flight four rugged
survivors battle tor first Flight
JQhampihPV L«eu Richardson
meets Moose Weaver and Fritz
Eichert takes on Bob Radley.
So fal’ we have about a perfect
score of zero in predicting fiist
flight winners. Bearing this in
mind, we still look for Riehard-
i u anu Eichert to win this
week and meet in next weeks
match for Champion, First
r ngnt
* * *
In the Second Flight this
week's play will determine the
Champion. Gene RatUH has
survived a series of tough
niatches and this week will play
the winner of the T. J. Howell
vs.' W. 11. Appling match, How-
ell and Appling did not play
last week's match in the regu-
larly scheduled time play; so at
tliis writing Ratliff’s opponent is
not known. Regardless of who
it is, however, Gene Ratliff’s im-
proved play makes- him the fa-
vorite to win Champion, Second
Flight. In the second flight con-
solation match Gary Mumford
battles John Hancock for top
honors. We predict Mumford
will win this match, simply be-
cause lie is always courteous and
helpful at the post office where
we do our mail business.
* * *
in the Third Flight, where
we predict with great accuracy,
Marcus Mauritz and L. G. Haim
Will be in a mighty battle for
Champion. This match has stu-
red a lot of interest and the
pressure will be heavy on both
contestants. Knowing of no man
who can carry a load under
pressure better than Maicus
Mauritz, we will go all the way
a ml predict that Marcus will
take the blue ribbon.
With a tijT of the hat to the
mOn who never say die-; we salute
Misters Shanks and Ross in their
battle for Third Flight Consola-
tion ft In tills match, Howard
Ross should put Shanks away
in a close one.

In the event of a cily-widu inJlcMTuption in wafer
service, only two things hnVo In be done; find the cause and lix it.
- - ” i
BUT in the event of a city-wide intemiptidft in
natural gas service seven tilings -have to be done:
1, Shut off the city gas supply of the city gate.
2; Visit home or business of evety customer (in Edna, that
would be about 1500 call end shut, off every meter.
3. Locate end repair the trouble
4 Return gas into the lines by opening the city gate
valve.
5. Re visit every customer (1500 calls' again). After
shutting off pilot and master valves at every gas
appliance, restore service by turning on gas at meter.
Where customer is not at horn . leave meter locked
6. Re light pilots and check operation of every gas
apphance.
7. Stand by for calls from customers who were not at
home when service was restored.
A c-it.V- wide interruption of c.as service in' Edna
would mean THREE THOUSAND eparate ts to' cu tomers’
premises by qualified technicians before service could be fully
restored. Any other procedure would citiously endanger the lives
and properly of Edna citizens.
In contrast to the, handful of-city employees who
could be mustered in such an emergency, Houston Natural has 69
