Nine of this year’s starting
lineup of the Edna Cowboys will
return next year, Coach Bill Ran-
dolph told members of the Lions
Club at Tuesday’s weekly lun-
cheon at the Legion Hall. He
spoke on a program arranged by -
Steele Simons. <
In a talk on “Football and
Coaching,” Randolph said one of
the principal items of the coach-
ing profession is organization.
Size and speed also are impor-
tant parts of a good football
player, but they must also have
spirit and hustle to win. The
mental attitude also is of prime
importance, he asserted. He said
football is a game of balance,
with one phase as important as
another.
Lack of team speed hurt the
1952 Cowboys, he said. He praised
this year’s team as "One of the
most adaptable and ' one that
took instructions better than any
I have coached.” He said the
spirit was 100 per cent better
at the close of the season than
at the outset.
Jack Hargis was a new Lion
present.
Program Chairman J. T. Vance
Jr. announced the, following pro-
gram chairmen: Dec. 2, H. C.
Stevens;*Dec. 9, David Whitlow;
Dec. 23, Rev. I. E, Walker; Dec.
30, Norton Wells; Jan. 6, Howard
Wells Jr.

COWBOYS LOSE—
(Continued from page 1)
THE EDNA HERALD
A Cowboy fumble set up an-
other Beeville touchdown late in
the second period. George Black-
mon passed to Billy Baker for
31 yards for the score. Gran-
berry added the extra point.
McDowell completed passes to
Duke, Bobo Wiegand, Doug
Tinker, and Larry Shook to bring
the ball from the Cowboys’ 38 to
Beeville’s 28, but the half ended
before the Cowboys could do
further damage.
The Trojans scored fast in the
third quarter. After receiving
the kickoff, Granberry, Black-
mon, and Jerry Griffin paced a
63-yard drive which Granberry ^
ended ffom the 15. Granberry 7
converted, and Beeville led^* *
to 6.
But the Cowboys came 1 _
with a 65-yard drive which in**"'
eluded a McDowell-to-Shook, 41-
yard screen pass play. Duke
scored from the six, and McDow-
ell converted.
The Trojans scored again in
the fourth period, with Black-
mon scrambling over from a
yard out. Granberry converted.
With 31- seconds left on the
clock, Roy Doubrava tallied front
the one. Billy Baker’s extra-point
try was wide. Beeville kicked
to the Cowboys’ 34. With about
15 seconds remaining, McDowell
shot a pass to Larry Shook, who
went all the way for the Cow-
boys’ final tally. McDowell kick-
ed the extra point as the game
ended.
Although the Cowboys netted
20 yards rushing, passing amount-
ed to more. McDowell threw 13
passes, with eight being com-
pleted. Shook caught three, Wie-
gand two, and Sowell, Duke, and
Tinker each snagged one.
Elsewhere in the district, Yoa-
kum warmed up for bi-district
play by defeating the Cuero Gob-
blers, 41-14, and Refugio took the
measure of Port Lavaca, 39-13.
Getting back to the Cowboys,
it is tough to pick a star, as e.very
player individually was a star.
II. M. Crabb, A. J. Peters, Doug
Tinker, Frank Storz, Freddie
Browning, Burton Wiegand, and
Larry Shook wore the Blue-and-
Whitc for the last time Friday
night. All seven of them will be
missed next year.
