Edna Expansion
Plans Hit Snag
Jackson County voters go to
the polls Saturday to cast their
ballots in the $162,000 county
hospital expansion program. The
20 polls open at 8 a.m. and close
at 7 p.ni.
Voters will be asked to vote
‘FOR” or “AGAINST” the is-
suance of the bonds and the
levying of the tax in payment
thereof. County officials have
indicated only a very slight,in-
crease in the tax rate will be
necessary.
There has been no organized
opposition to the program, but
proponents of the issue, includ-
ing the Hospital Board headed
by. Roy Selby, urge everyone to
go to the polls and vote. A rep-
resentative vote is desired.
The expansion program would
add a new wing to the present
hospital located at Ganado. It
would provide additional rooms,
especially private rooms, which
are badly needed, according to
the board and Supt. Louise
Jones. The nursery also would
be relocated in the new wing in
more suitable quarters.
The. voting precincts of the
county are as follows:
1. Courthouse (upstairs)
2. Courthouse (downstairs)
3. Red Bluff school
4. La Ward school *
5. Ganado school
6. Cordele Center

Support tile Hospital Bond Issue
I he hospital bou<F*h{Wl'' Saturday deserves the
support ol all of.thejjif uuftvs taxpaying voters.
The $162,000 revenue from the bond issue will
be used to add mor\^ private rooms and beds fo a
building? that: has been filled to capacity frequently
in the past. Besides the more revenue-producing pri-
vate roams and service rooms that go with them, the
proposed expansion program will include a new and
private nusery section that will make the Mauritz
Memorial-Jackson County Hospital tops in this area.
The very efficient and capable hospital board,
headed by Roy Selby and including O. B. Fenner of
Edna, E. J. Etlinger of Ganado, W. R. Farquhar of
Lolita, J. .1. Hunt of I,a Ward and Mrs. A. F. Ward of
Vanderbilt (all sections of the county are represent-
ed), have publicly stated the expansion program is
necessary. The Herald has studied the proposition and
thinks it’s a MUST.
In recent weeks the voters of Port Lavaca and
Victoria have voted hospital expansion programs,
but the vote has been light although overwhelmingly
in favor. Let's ALL vote Saturday and all vote FOR
the hospital bond issue.
