With the Sick
Mary Rabb was dismissed
from Citizens General Hospital
last Monday after several days’
stay. She is doing very well.
Edgar Burchett was dis-
missed from the Tyler Hospital
Wednesday after having day
surgery. He is improving.
It is reported that Mrs.
Daisy Rabb is not doing any
good. She is still in the hospital
in Terrell.
Verlene House spent a few
days in Presbyteriun Hospital
in Dallas last week for tests.
She is to enter Presbyterian on
June 27 for neck surgery. She
needs your prayers and moral
support. We wish her the best
and a quick recovery.
Sue Underwood is in Citi-
zens General Hospital in
Greenville after having a heart
attack at her home Saturday.
Lota Cason Dalton is staying
at home now after a battle with
pneumonia at Citizens General
Hospital. Gertrude has been
staying with her at night and
one of the granddaughters
stays in the day. Lota was able
to be in church at Flats Sunday
morning. Everyone was happy
to see her back.
Bill Blake's mother has been
spending several days with Bill
& Nita. She had the misfortune
of falling last Sunday night,
breaking her hip. We hope she
has a speedy recovery.
Elizabeth Elkins has not
been feeling well this past
week. She and Zim and their
grandson were in Greenville
earlier last week.
Mr. & Mrs. C. J. Hatley
visited with Betty’s sister,
Zella Fields, in Terrell on
Thursday. Zella had just gotten
out of the hospital.
Bake Sale
A Success
The Point Fire Dept.’s bake
sale was a success Friday after-
noon. The sale made nearly
$200. The department was
very appreciative of everyone
who had a part in baking, sell-
ing and buying the cakes.
Flats Supper
Come join the fun again at
the Flats Community Center
for 84 and coverednlish and
dessert supper. Bring your fav-
orite dish and enjoy eating and
good clean fun on Thursday,
June 21, at 7:30 p.m. Every-

Reunion Held
Those from Point attending
the Fenton family reunion at
White Oak near Gladewater
last weekend were Leona Ir-
win, Nellie & William Nei-
meyer, Neil Alex Harris and
Melvin and Odessa Turner.
The Fentons and Turners are
first cousins.
Baby Shower
.Mrs. Phillip (Margie) Cason
will be honored with a baby
shower Friday, June 22, at
7:30 p.m. in the home of Mrs.
Helen Stevens. (It’s gonna be a
girl.) Hostesses are friends of
the family. You are invited to

of God is planning to have ded-
ication services for their new
church on July 15. There will
be further announcements later

ing some repair work done at
their home, and Mr. & Mrs.
Clint Threatt are also having
some repair work done.

and roof job. Henry Garmon
III and Bubby Williams are do-

Senior Citizens
The Lone Oak Senior
Citizens met Wednesday, June
13, for their regular monthly
meeting. Thelma McMillan,
president, called the meeting to
order. The members voted to
buy a new trash receptacle for
the center’s use. They dis-
cussed renting a booth at the
Lone Oak Fourth of July cele-
bration. Tickets on the quilt
will be sold at that event. Irene
Dodd, vice president, closed
the meeting with a prayer.

Karen Winders is a new em-
ployee at the center. She re-
places Marie Tallant. Since
Marie is a member, we expect
her back for lunch and a visit.
Karen’s husband, Warren
Winders, is employed at Econ-
omy Sales in Greenville. They
have one daughter, Elizabeth,
who lives at home with them.
Mrs. Lottie Hambrick, who
has been ill for a while, was
back at the center. Glen Burk is
improving nicely. We wish
them both a speedy recovery to
good health.
It was good to have Hor-
tense Metzger back visiting.
She lives in Oklahoma City
now. Her sister, Carol Chap-
man, came with her, and also a
friend, Becky Cathey, from
Tawakoni.
Birthday celebrants for the
month of June are Irene Dodd
and Luther South. Hostesses
for the birthday event with ice
cream and cake are Thelma
McMillan and Mary South.

better than the other one. They
stopped by for him to see

Garrett and to pick Jodi up.
Jodi spent several days with
Oleta. Willene went out to
Lone Star Cemetery to place
flowers on Cody Garrett's
grave for Father’s Day.
I received a note from Mar-
garet (Maggie) Kerr of Mes-
quite last week. She sent a
check to help support the Bap-
tist Vacation Bible School. We
appreciate her thoughtfulness
and support. We still miss her
in Rains County.

Vera Williams & Betty Hat-
ley went down to Grand Saline
on Wednesday to visit their
brother, James Cook. He
looked some better, and Vera
cut his hair while they were
there.
Robert Dodson of Forney
was here Friday to visit with
Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Briggs. He
and Maxine made several calls
on friends & family, visited
with Vera Williams and
Honey, Mr. & Mrs. Less Dod-
son, Mr. & Mrs. Junior Hat-
ley. And Robert was in Com-
merce to visit his brother
Richard.
Robert Dodson was driving
a new red Ford pickup-very
prftty. He and his wife Bobby
were back in Point Saturday to
mow Mrs. Leona Briggs’ yard.

Clevey Don took a trip to Ar-
kansas and Missouri last week
and enjoyed every minute of it.

to Borger to get his two chil-
dren for the summer, and also
to Tulsa, OK, to visit with his

Helms.
Willie Mae Crabtree and
Frankie Ainsworth had busi-
ness in Emory this past week.
Hugh T. Little and Henry
Garmon III were cutting and
raking Honk Parker’s hay. He
got it baled and in the barn this
time before it rained.

E. L. Duffer
DELAYED
Funeral services for E. L.
“Duff" Duffer, 70, were held
Sunday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at
Memorial Funeral Home with
Rev. Charles McMinn officiat-
ing.
Burial was in Memorial
Park Cemetery.
Mr. Duffer died at 3 a.m.
Friday, June 1, in a Tyler
hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 7, 1920,
in Van Sickle, Texas, to Henry
A. Duffer and Effie Kirkman
Duffer.
He had lived in Tyler for the
last 20 years. He was a Baptist
and a retired mobile home
salesman. He was a 32nd
degree Mason and a member of
the Knights Temple. He served
in the U.S. Army and was a
veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife,
Dolores Duffer, Tyler; 3 sons,
Jerry Duffer, Apopka, Fla.,
Don R. Duffer, Lagunia Nig-
uel, Ca., and Dennis James,
Texarkana, Tx.; 4 daughters,
Glenda Drake, Point, Linda
Dunn, Dallas, Patty York, Ft.
Worth, Diane Rasor, Burle-
son; a sister, Opal Curtis,
Greenville; 12 grandchildren
and 1 great-grandchild.

Regular Meeting
The City Council of the City
of Emory will hold their regu-
lar monthly council meeting at
7:00 p.m. June 19th at which
time the following items of
business will be considered:
1. Approve minutes of past
meeting of the City Council.
2. Approve payment of cur-
rent bills presented to City
Council.
3. Citizens presentation and
comments.
4. City Council to discuss
Phase II Wastewater Construc-
tion.
5. City Council to discuss
location for a Farmers Market.
6. Robert Gordon to discuss
work accomplished for the
month of May.
7. Comments from council
members.
Take any and all action ne-
cessary in regards to the above

Air Force Reserve Airman
1st Class Ricky W. Bloxom
has graduated from Air Force
basic training at Lackland Air
Force Base, Texas.
During the six weeks of
training the airman studied the
Air Force mission, organiza-
tion and customs and received
special training in human rela-
tions.
In addition, airmen who
complete basic training earn
credits toward an associate
degree through the community
college of the Air Force.
Bloxom is the son of JoAnne
E. Bloxom of 3764 W. Buck-
ingham, Garland, Texas.
His foster parent, Darrell
Prather, resides on Rural
Route 1, Emory, Texas.
He is a 1987 graduate of
Rains High School, Emory.
Margie Jones came home
from the hospital Monday,
June 11th. She is improving.
Her daughter, Sylvia
Northam and granddaughter,
Staci Mitchell from Lexington,
South Carolina were here to be
with her for a week. They left
Thursday, June the 14th to
return to South Carolina.

LONE OAK--Memorial
services for Lone Oak resident
Jacqueline Tschumperlin, 77,
were held Thursday at Bartley
Funeral Home Chapel with Fa-
ther Maro officiating. She died
Monday at Citizens General
Hospital in Greenville.
She married Charles
Tschumperlin in Gulfport on
Feb. 18, 1963. She was retired
from the Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company.
Survivors include her hus-
band, Charles, of Lone Oak; a
brother, Roy Paulk of Mobile,
Ala.; a sister, lied McGalla-
gher, also of Mobile.
