returned to his duties Sunday
after a visit with his parents,
Mr. and Mre. J. Henry of this
city. In company with his
mother, they spent several
days last week in Houston vis-
iting with relatives.
Stewards Meeting Tonight
at 8 CClock
A meeting of the board of
stewards of the Methodist
church is announced for Mon-
day night at 8 o’clock, at the
Methodist church. A full at-
tendance is urged. , . ,
Mr. and Mrs. Don Hoskins
of Corpus Christi returned
home Sunday morning after a
week’s vacation, spent with
the lady’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. T. J. Molloy.
Veltus L. McLeroy, S 2/c, of
Oceanside, Calif., is spending
a 15-day furlough with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs: Homer Mc-
Leroy of this city. He came
via way of Dallas and stopped
over for a short visit with his
sisters, Mrs. F. E. Linebarger
and Mrs. Wm. Flier of that
city.

The Bears played a losing
battle against the Alto Yel-
low Jackets, Friday night,
Sept. 15, at Alto. The game
ran 0 to 0 until the beginning
of the last half in which the
Yellow Jackets broke loose for
two touchdowns, one an inter-
cepted pass deep in our flat
zone, the other a long pass by
their own side.
We hope that we can profit
by our mistakes next Friday,
Sept. 22. at Tenaha, for the
second game of the season.

Sotorday Night
The Timpson Future Farm-
ers and Future Farmerettes
held an informal ranch style
barbecue Saturday evening.
The affair was typical western
style and was held on the fa-
miliar camp grounds of Rex
Brinson’s pasture. This is an
annual get-together for the
Future Fanners and Future
Farmerettes. The purpose is to
acquaint new members of the
chapter with the way boys
and girls manage and plan
their work for the year.

Social Hour Will
Bo Held at Methodist
Church Wednesday Night
The regular monthly social
hour will he held at the Meth-
odist church annex Wednesday
evening, it was announced
Sunday. The Men’s Bible class
has charge of the program for
the evening, and a large at-
tendance is anticipated. All
members and friends of the
church are invited.
Staff Sgt. Curtis Ray Bailey,
Doris serving with U. S. forces over-
seas, has been awarded the
Purple Heart, according to in-
formation received by his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Bai-
ley of this city. The young
man stated that he was send-
ing the award to his parents.
Sgt Bailey waa with U. S.
invasion forces of France and
was wounded on the 15th of
June. He has been under
treatment in a hospital, and in
a communication received by
his parents . last week, he
stated that he was recovering
nicely.
