WELL, GUESS who was in
the office last week to see us?
None other than Lillian Ors-
bom, Austin, along with her
nephew. Tommy Orsborn,
Houston... what joy to see and
visit with them, even for a short
time... they planned a visit
with Helen Johnston before
leaving town...
AND WE had another sur-
prise visit when Herman A
Elouise drove down and sat a
spell... Elouise brought us “A
Quiet Book'' she had made...
so good for young children's
learning, and also some bread
or cake she had made... they
always never come alone, al-
ways bring us something...
KATHRYN MURPHY, Lone
Oak, was here last week... she
is the daughter of the late Mr.
& Mrs. Sam Mercer... they
lived in the Cody community,
the last house in Rains County
before entering Hunt County...
she brought us a newspaper ar-
ticle from the Ft. Worth News
Telegram written by Jean Haly
... we’ll pass a paragraph on
for you older folks to read and
ponder: “Some of the most
commonly used drugs are ‘po-
tentially inappropriate' for old
people, according to the AMA.
They include Valium, Librium,
Darvon and Darvocet. Prob-
ably 6.6 million persons 65
and over, the study indicated,
are taking drugs that could be
dangerous for them. What this
means to ordinary people is
threefold. First, don’t let this
research push you into quitting
any medication on your own.
Talk with your physician. Sec-
ond, patients ought to take a
mentally conservative attitude
toward drugs, especially if un-
expected side effects show up.
Talk with your physician. Fi-
nally, mixing prescription
drugs, inappropriate ones or
dosages excessive for an elder-
ly person can produce symp-
toms that mimic diseases. One
is Alzheimer's disease. Fami-
lies ought to review an elder’s
drug regime before accepting a
diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Talk
with your physician ”...
