Bright Star News
by Mae Miller
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29,1998 COPHtfl L/Cadtf
The month of October is just
around the comer. I hope it will
send us cooler weather and some
more rain to wet us down.
This week just flew by, and we
found no time to get the yard
cleaned up from falling limbs.
We were in Tyler this week. I saw
my nice doctor to take care of my
nose and some more places I had on
my face. We spent the day at the
mall watching everyone spend their
money and having a good time in
all these new fall clothes. I had a
nice lunch, and it was so good to
not have dishes to wash. We fell in
at the door late that day dead tired.
On Saturday, October 3rd, the
Bright Star School reunion will be
held at the Rains County Fair-
grounds exhibit building in Emory.
Bring your favorite dish. A small
door prize will be presented. The
reunion will start at 10:00 a m. See
you there.
We had some new members to
join our church Sunday, David and
Ruby Griffith and their three boys
and baby girl.
We attended the funeral of
Debbie Wedeking Sunday after-
noon She was buried in Colony
Cemetery.
I went out to check the garden for
armyworms and got a bucket of
tomatoes. They were hidden under
the vines. I had to dust the greens
for little cabbage worms as they
have been busy eating them up.
Lucy will be home this week to
spend some time in Bright Star.
Our October birthdays are Maud-
ie Tanklm, Daphnia Galyean, Mel-
ba Wright, Genny Foster and Lena
Wright.
Earl and Mary Kernes will have
an anniversary on Oct. 27th.
The Alba Fair was really good.
The parade and gospel singing were
enjoyed so very much. The food
was good. R.L. and Geraldine
Miller, Artemus and 1, Odell and
Sam Hargrove, Mike and Vale and
Michelle Home, Sandy and Rick
Russell, and Bonnie and Eddie
Frazier were all at Alba Saturday.
Odell’s grandkids came. Odell and
Sam were in the parade. They got
second prize with the old-time look.
Nadine Phillips said her cake
won first place. The bank bought
her cake. We never did see Eddie
and Bonnie that day.
Grace Reagan and Syble Wil-
liams came to Alba Friday night for
the gospel singing. The Bright Star
choir sang that night.
Travis Burleson, Jr. went by
Jodie and Audrey Hill’s Sunday
morning on his way to a family
reunion in Point. Jodie Hill is limp-
ing on his foot. He might have a
broken toe.
Our prayer concerns are for our
country and our leaders, the lost,
our pastor and our church, the
Wedeking family, all the sick in our
community and hospitals, Daphnia
Galyean, Nadine Phillips, Francis
Horne, Linnie Hudgins, Arneda
Yowell, Maudie Franklin, Olga
Bingham. Randy Traylor, Diana
Wolfe and Dean Robertson.
An old-time singing school will
be at the Bright Star Baptist Church
Oct. 1st, 8th, 15th, 23, and 29th,
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bill Adams
will be the instructor. Everyone is
welcome.
The autumn leaves are falling and
changing color. Remember the gol-
den mums and whispering pine
trees in the fall. The world is alive
with color.
This new puppy dog is bosf
around here. She takes her bath in a
bowl by herself. She jumps into the
bowl every five minutes. Some-
times she sticks her head under
first.
It is almost midnight and time to
relax and go to bed. 1 am looking
forward to a new day and a better
tomorrow.
Stay in prayer. Keep in touch
with your neighbor. God bless all.
